"Welcome to Carpathia, Mr. Greene." Greene’s heart skipped a beat as he stepped on to the hard ground.
A sensation of relief and calm overcame him. As tired as he was, Greene was glad to be back on solid ground once again. He was used to long ship voyages, fondly recalling the numerous trips he had taken with his father in their trading endeavors. However, this had been his first time traveling on one of the Free Trade Company’s flying ships. Air ships, as they were called were converted sea-going vessels; the masts and sails were removed, replaced with a giant balloon. They were able to reach great altitudes and glide through the skies. This made them much faster than conventional sea-faring vessels and with none of the limitations presented by geography. The thought of being suspended so high up in the air with nothing but a few ropes tied to a balloon, filled with what the goblins liked to call “the laughing gas”, made Greene very uneasy and thus he spent most of the eight-day voyage in his cramped cabin with little sleep. The ship’s swaying in the wind felt like sailing a ship through a constant storm.
The goblin's shrill voice rang out once again. "Is there anything else we can be doin' for ya, Mr. Greene?" He shook his head, smiling thankfully at the goblin.
"Welcome to Carpathia!” The goblin's voice faded in the distance as Greene made his way down the mud-soaked path towards the center of town. "May your stay be safe and bountiful."
Greene’s smile faded quickly as he reminded himself of the purpose of his journey. His father, a prominent merchant of The Four Kingdoms had come to Carpathia last year in search of the mysterious treasures said to be scattered around this land. Greene last heard from him over nine months ago as his expedition was preparing to enter The Dark Forest and head towards The Great Burrows. Greene decided to make the trip to New Haven, a Free Trade Company trading town on the south western borders of Carpathia with The Four Kingdoms. Here he would recruit men, buy supplies and head into The Dark Forest in search of his fathers’ expedition....
Hello everyone and welcome to the long awaited Kickstarter for Carpathia, brought to you by Olde World Miniatures!
Carpathia is a table-top skirmish game for two or more players set in a dark and unforgiving fantasy world. The land itself, also called Carpathia, is covered by dark forests, mountains, and is home to an ancient evil. Long ago, the region was the center of a civilization remembered today only as The Ancients. Masters of the magical arts, the energies that they controlled still linger within the ruins and relics they left behind.
In Carpathia players take control of a group of adventurers on a common quest. Each game is played on a table top decorated with terrain to represent whatever part of the world your adventure is taking place in.
Carpathia has been designed to be easy to learn. Those familiar with war gaming will be able to quickly familiarize themselves with the Carpathia rules. Those new to war gaming should have no problem understanding the game after a couple of games.
Welcome to Carpathia! May your stay be safe and bountiful.
For those of you that may be new to Kickstarter we have included a quick how-to guide below. Also, please notice that this time around we have a lot less pledge levels as we decided to make all the pledges about the game itself. However, we have a ton of figures being offered as Add-Ons. These are both figures we have already manufactured, as well as greens we have waiting to go off to cast.
...Before he knew it, the breeze was back, this time accompanied by a sweet, almost intoxicating scent.
“Good eve stranger…” a voice whispered from the darkness. Startled, Greene turned around, almost tripping over himself. Was he imagining things? Who did that voice belong to?
“Mr. Greene…” the voice resonated more clearly. A figure formed in the dark, approaching him slowly. Greene found himself unable to move, his body as still as the encroaching forest. What appeared before him was a sight he had not expected. This time, he did trip over himself. He quickly stood, composing himself and staring at the form that had appeared in front of him.
A woman, with hair as long as her revealing dress, stood in front of Greene. She wore pale skin and a deep red smile. It was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. As she approached, he noticed an echo of sadness resonating from her wide smile. “Wh-who are you?” Greene asked, his voice floating into the darkness.
“My name is Erzsebet”, she responded softly. The sadness of her smile now reflected through her voice. She looked around nervously. “My home is three days north into the Dark Forest. It is my first time coming to New Haven alone. You see, my father has taken ill with the fever. I came here for herbs and medicine to bring back...I am afraid to make the journey alone. I heard you speak of your adventure in the tavern...could you help me?” Her smile was sweet, almost unbearably so. Greene wanted to reach out and touch her, just to ensure that she was real. Her black hair tickled her face as she looked up at Greene expectantly.
What reason would he have to say no?
How could he say no? .....
Now that you know how to pledge and how our pledge levels are set up, you are probably wondering what comes inside the box when you pledge for Carpathia the Game.
- The Carpathia Rule Book.
- 17" x 22" Full Color Map of Carpathia
- Imperial Dwarves Faction (includes 6 adventurers and one Hero)
- Black Rock Clans Faction (includes 6 adventurers and one Hero)
- 10 Black and Red War Gaming Dice
- A Mini Tape Measure
....Looking around, he noticed Erzsebet standing not a foot away from him, staring at the dwindling campfire. Her gaze was empty, her lips pale.
“Where is the archer?” Greene hesitated to ask. Erzsebet shrugged, showing no emotion. “He probably had enough and ran away as we slept,” she answered. Again, Greene felt no more hesitation, no more fear. His awareness seemed to vanish along with everything else. His only focus was on Erzsebet’s deep brown eyes, which now gazed into his own.
Once again, Greene noticed that sweet, intoxicating scent. He shook himself out of it. “Come on, Erzsebet, we must keep moving.” Erzsebet smiled, looking down. A small chuckle escaped her lips. “We are here, Mr. Greene. I’m home.” Her smile grew. Greene shrugged, unable to understand. They were in pure wilderness; not a single house or hut had been seen for days. He looked to Erzsebet, who pointed behind him. Greene walked slowly in the direction she had pointed, seeing nothing until he arrived at a clearing in the trees.
Upon stepping into the open space, he had become awestruck. What loomed in front of him, so close yet so far away, were the Shiverpeak Mountains. He saw enormous, jagged peaks reaching into the clouds above. On top of one of the jutting peaks stood a mighty black fortress. Although imposing, with high ramparts and stone walls, the place looked abandoned. Nothing remained but ruins of a once grandiose castle.
Suddenly, Greene was all too aware of everything that had happened on their journey. How did he allow himself to be dragged here? How had he allowed himself to become tricked? Greene shook his head violently. "Grond didn’t run off by himself, you fool!" Greene cursed himself." None of them ran off. They were killed. Killed by someone who is still alive…" He reached into his coat pocket. The coins he had given Grond and the others were in there. How? He thought. His heart nearly stopped with fear.
That lingering scent, the sweet, intoxicating smell, had suddenly become a pungent, rotten stench. Sensing careful movement behind him, Greene turned, trying to control his fear. Erzsebet stood directly behind him, hovering over his face, with a wicked smile; she was as beautiful as ever.
“Thank you very much for helping me, Mr. Greene!” Her eyes met Greene’s lovingly, and with a gentle finger she stroked his face. “You were quite a brave adventurer…not only did you get me home but you were kind enough to dispose of that pesky dwarf, and those other three fools.”
The fear had overwhelmed Greene. He stared at Erzsebet as she moved ever closer to him, revealing a fanged smile. His head began to whirl, and it felt as if his legs were no longer attached to his body. Erzsebet opened her gaping mouth, sinking her teeth into Greene’s neck. His body became paralyzed; he couldn’t move. Darkness creped in from the corners of his eyes. Death was on her way. I have made a mistake, Greene thought to himself as his mouth tried to form words. The air escaped his lungs. I should have never come here. The darkness closed in on his mind, his body went numb. He let go and let the darkness take him. Erzsebet let out a quiet laugh and whispered into his unhearing ear.
“Welcome to Carpathia, Mr. Greene! May your stay be safe and bountiful”
Carpathia is more than just a game to us. Over the last 4 years we have not only been working on rules and figures, but the entire world in which Carpathia is played. The World of Arasas that we created is full of different kingdoms and realms and inhabited by all different types of races and factions. We have built a rich history for this world stemming back to the beginning of time. This is not a one off board game. We have worked very hard to build Carpathia and the world it's played in to be a Fantasy Table-Top War Game that can be built upon with new lands to discover, regions to explore and people to meet. We have expansions and supplements planned to keep us busy for the next couple years all to ensure that Carpathia is fully supported and constantly improving and getting better.
Below you will find our Pledge Levels. Please note that we do have a pledge ($1 thank you pledge) that allows you to simply pledge for any and all add-ons you might want if gaming is not your thing, but you are really into the figures.
Over the last few years we have been hard at work producing figures to support Carpathia (along with a few that we honestly just thought would look really cool). Currently we have 23 figures fully produced and cast for sale and an additional 16 figures that are sitting sculpted and ready to send off to cast.
All 39 figures are available on this Kickstarter as add-ons. The finished figures are being offered at a Kickstarter only discount. The pre-production figures are also being offered at a discount of what will be the retail price.
We have dozens of other figures still in the concept art phase as you will see farther down in the Stretch Goals. All 14 playable factions have been completely planned out along with a few potential surprise factions that we have being drawn up as a way of keeping the game fresh after it has been released.
Below you will find all of our Stretch Goal offerings. We certainly did our very best to offer as many freebies as possible, but for us it has become equally as important to release as much of this monster of a game as possible. You see, at our goal of 100K we will certainly be able to release the Carpathia Box and deliver a really fun filled game with plenty of depth. Our true goal however, is to really be able to release Carpathia in all of its glory. We would be absolutely ecstatic to be able to release Carpathia with all 14 factions and every extra we have currently planned for the game, but in order to do that we would have to unlock all of our stretch goals. So really the scope of our launch depends on our backers and how good you guys feel we have done so far!
Carpathia is a table-top game for two or more players in which players recruit a party of adventurers to do battle against one another. The individual games are meant to be played in around an hour. The rules are based on a simple D6 system, in which players take turns to move their adventurers, perform actions, cast magic, shoot, and fight. During each game you will also have the ability to gather resources, treasure, or loot, as well as gain experience with your individual adventurers. Be careful though, Carpathia is a dangerous land and your adventurers can be killed.
A series of games, usually story driven is called a Quest. In between each game during your Quest, you will have the option of enhancing your adventurer’s statistics with the experience they have gained, purchase new gear, learn new skills and spells, craft items, or trade with your friends. With a total of 14 playable factions to choose from, as well as being to mix adventurers from different factions as long as they are of the same alignment, Carpathia offers a multitude of options to customize your party to fit your play style. This is before you purchase additional gear, items and weapons for your adventurers.
Below is a video going more in depth into the rules. We are currently trying to have the core rules put up as a link, as well as finish a game play demo video. Unfortunately we ran out of time as the launch date is upon us. As soon as we get the core rules file back from our graphic designer we will get a link put up and time permitting we well also get the demo done on time to show everyone one of our own epic battles.
We are Olde World Miniatures, a miniature and gaming company founded in 2012 by Maciej Fitrzyk and Kevin Cyrulik, two friends and co-workers.
Maciej has been involved in Gaming and Miniature Painting since middle school. More of a war gamer, he has spent years in the community painting figures both for himself and others, building terrain, entering competitions and has really been engrossed in the whole war gaming scene since the mid 1990's. Maciej has a Masters Degree in Military History and since he is the creator of the World in which you will play, you can often find little historical references throughout our fantasy world and its people.
Kevin has been involved in gaming (mostly RPG) since 2000. An avid Dungeons and Dragons fan (Hail to the Dragon Disciples out there!), he has been the constant push in this project to add as many RPG elements as possible to the game without adding an actual DM. Kevin has worked in small business management for 8 years now and has been the one during the course of this project who works with our vendors and suppliers, as well as working out all of the logistic involved in taking Olde World Miniatures from an idea to a full fledged gaming company.
Together we have worked tirelessly on this project for the better part of 4 years. We have invested considerable amounts of time and money into trying to bring something completely new and different to the Table Top Gaming Community. We decided that we finally have enough put together to showcase Carpathia and find out once and for all if there is enough interest for us to turn our dream into a reality.
During the years Carpathia has been in development we have worked with some really talented individuals. These people have not only done work for us but have really gotten behind our idea of trying to make Carpathia the next big thing in gaming. We decided that it would only be right to give them credit where credit is due because without them Carpathia would really still be just a good idea.

Thanks for all your help guys, we could never have gotten this far without you!!
Over the past 4 years we have worked on this project together every spare minute we have. However, in order to fund this project we have both had to put in considerable amounts of over-time into our day jobs, of course leaving less time to work on the game. Its a nasty cycle, but that has been our lives. We have invested more than $80,000 dollars into the game and all of the figures up to this point. We did the math and figured we were looking at another 4 years for us to get Carpathia to the point where we could launch it by normal means and that would be just the Carpathia Box with the first 2 factions.
By choosing to use Kickstarter, we could potentially launch with all 14 factions by the end of the year. Ever since we did our first Kickstarter back in the summer of 2013 we have been asked by several people when we would be launching our next project. We really didn't want to do another small figure support project. We wanted to hold off until we had a full game to offer our backers and that time is now. We wanted to Go Big or Go Home!
We are proud to announce that we have partnered with Ship Naked to handle all of our warehousing and fulfillment. Based out of New Hampshire and with partners all over the globe, using Ship Naked has allowed us to offer Worldwide Customs Friendly Shipping. This means we will be handling any and all customs and/or VAT charges (for all customs friendly regions - zone B).
Below is a chart we have compiled for all shipping charges to all parts of the globe. We have done our best to make shipping as cheap as possible. As this project progresses if there is anything we can do to make shipping even cheaper then we gladly will. Until then see below for shipping charges.
Note that the base shipping for all pledges is selected in the pledge already however any extra shipping charges for add-ons and such will have to be added manually by you in your pledge amount. A survey will be sent out, following the completion of this project, which will allow you to let us know exactly what the extra money is for.
For those of you who are only interested in some add-on figures, simply pledge for the 1 dollar thank you and add the cost of the figures you would like and the shipping amount (using the chart below) to your pledge amount.
Thank you all for taking the time to check out our Kickstarter. We hope you found it both fun and informative.
Welcome to Carpathia, May your stay be safe and bountiful!!
Risks and challenges
Producing a game of this scale definitely comes with its share of risks and challenges. That being said, we at Olde World Miniatures feel that over the last 4 years we have been able to work through all of the challenges that have come up and have mapped out a successful manufacturing / shipping plan. Allow me to share with you how we plan to execute things after the Kickstarter succeeds.
Though all of the figures for the Carpathia Box have already been completed, should we unlock all of our stretch goals we will have a large number of figures to sculpt and cast in a relatively short amount of time. However, where we used to work exclusively with traditional sculptors, which took up to a month per figure, we now have digital sculptors that are able to turn our concepts into masters in under a week.
Probably the thing that has caused the most sleepless nights has been the actual game manufacturing. Figures aside we have a rule book, dice, tape measure, map, even the box itself... and puts all this together for us because at 5, 10, 15,000 units we sure wont have enough time. Well lucky for us and for you we have began working with a very reputable game manufacturer, Grand Prix International. Grand Prix has worked with some pretty big table top games in the industry and we happen to have them right in our back yard (well .. a 40 minute drive into Springfield). We are working with them to assure that we will be able to satisfy all of our pledges on-time and on-budget.
We also plan on continuing to use our friends at Valiant in Wisconsin for the casting of our high quality resin figures. We have been working with Valiant since before our first Kickstarter.
Another area we feared when we first discussed a Kickstarter of this magnitude. After a little research we found Ship Naked a warehouse / fulfillment company also less than a half days drive from us. Ship Naked has assured us professional shipping all over the world cheaper than we can get anywhere else. They are Customs-Friendly Worldwide allowing us to ship anywhere we can find a backer.
As you can see we are striving to be so much more than a one trick pony. The success of Carpathia and Olde World Miniatures has been our only goal for the last 4 years and we are very excited to finally see it come to life.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
