About this project
Definition of “On the Lig"- attending parties, openings and social gatherings with the intention of getting free food or drink.
On the lig is the art of 'the mooch'. Set against the backdrop of high-society parties, receptions, and black-tie events ON THE LIG is about the Irish in New York who mooch their way through life and try to make a name for themselves. It takes guts to go on the Lig, it takes guts to be a loser.
Meet the Characters
Dara, is a former “up and coming” actor from Ireland who struggles to get more work. When he and his roommate Fiona meet effervescent Katie, they find themselves working that much harder to make it in New York. But will finances, Dara's cynicism, and Katie's innocence get in the way of making it?
DARA was the next big thing. Following a very successful run of an off-Broadway production, Dara was signed by a major agency and started to land small parts in major films, commercials and TV shows. However, the last five years have been tough in New York City. The lucrative work has dried up. His supermodel girlfriend, Clodagh, a strident vegan, turfed him out for eating bacon in her kitchen. And she has shacked up with a posh Paddy. Dara is out of money, desperate and heartbroken. He spends the series trying to get back to where he was. At the beginning of the series, Dara fixes his desires on landing a part that is worthy of his acting talents and lands a part in “My Left Foot.” “I was born to play cerebral palsy,” he says. Finally he’s got a chance to prove himself as a real artist and getting away from the “stage-Irish” fiddles and leprechauns, that Americans love to cast him. But the more he struggles against the stereotype the more it seems to engulf him.
Dara will be played by Johnny Hopkins. His impressive film and TV credits include The Leftovers, Big Words, Burning Blue, Kick-Ass, Surviving Family, Meskada, The Leftovers, Person of Interest, Law and Order SVU and a recurring role on Mercy (2009-2010).
FIONA is a talented DJ and stand-up comedian. But she breaks out into song at the slightest provocation and worst still, she thinks she can rap and beat box. Fiona’s management company goes into liquidation and her gigs start to dry up. Her solution is to rent her spare rooms to Dara and Katie. Fiona often ignores her own strengths and instincts especially when it comes to choosing men to date.
The character Fiona will be played by comedienne and DJ Fiona Walsh (Great White American Teeth, 2008, Erectostop, Sundays at Seven at Irish Arts Center).
KATIE ROSE has a positive outlook and endless drive that practically hurls her into success. But as a well-known children’s presenter in Ireland she left the country quickly after an ill-defined scandal: she slapped a child on set. She’s determined to bury that bit of news and came to New York to make it big. But, Katie has a habit of trusting the wrong people - repeatedly.
Katie will be played by TV presenter Katie Rose Van Buren, (RTE's The Juice, Fuse TV) http://katierose-vanburen.squarespace.com/videos/
JOHN, A former stagehand with ”Riverdance,” Karl O’Shaughnessy aka “The Dance Celt” is both Dara’s oldest friend and his nemesis. They don’t even really like each other. But to the Dance Celt, Dara is cool personified. He reveres Dara and is also hugely competitive with him. He spends much of his time trying to undermine Dara. He envies Dara’s luck with women. He watches Dara as he flirts with women but when he tries the same lines he usually gets slapped in the face. He is a terrible actor but is more successful than Dara because he’s willing to embrace his Irishy-ness.
John will be played by John Keating (John Adams, recurring as Ernie Moran on Boardwalk Empire, Lipstick Jungle, Nurse Jackie, Law and Order SVU)

Also we are using professionals in their field and value their skills and talents so therefore its important to us that we pay all our cast and crew.
Beyond The First Episode
Everyone working on this project is professionally working in the TV and film industry and devoted to making this a kickass comedy series. We have filmed episode 1, but we need your help to complete post production and film the rest of the series. Like many independently-financed productions we have to "rely on the kindness of (friends) and strangers." However, unlike most indie productions, we do like to pay the people who have worked tirelessly for the series. The crew and the cast graciously allowed us to defer their wages but now we think it's time to pay these very talented individuals!
Some sneak peak scenes that will make you LOL!
Risks and challenges
The big risk with any project is not being able to finish. Fortunately, we are an Emmy-winning production company with many successful projects under our belt so we believe we are worth backing and have some great rewards to offer our funders also!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
