My book provides libraries with proven ways they can successfully obtain more funding. Most of its info hasn't been published before.

Here’s the scoop!

More people than ever are using libraries (including job hunters, kids, teens, families, seniors) because of the bad economy.  At the same time, library funding is being cut drastically (sometimes by two-thirds) because of the bad economy.

I am a professional writer and solutions-oriented.  I interviewed more than 50 library experts across the U.S. last year to find library-funding success stories.   I found enough wonderful funding successes to create a 184-page book: Saving Our Public Libraries:  Why We Should. How We Can.  The info in my book has never been brought together before.  Most of it has never even been published before.  Other libraries can duplicate these successes once they learn these funding strategies.

I am here on kickstarter to obtain funding to print as many copies of my book as possible so I can give these copies to public libraries across the U.S.  I’m going to start with two or three states.  Donors to my kickstarter project will help me pick the states.

Details are below.

Why public libraries are vital to job hunters, kids, teens, seniors, families, and communities throughout the U.S.

• Public libraries provide job hunters with FREE high-speed computers, FREE Internet access, FREE one-on-one assistance in finding and applying for jobs online, FREE classes in how to use a computer mouse, how to open an e-mail account, how to use Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, and more.  Libraries are open evenings and weekends when most one-stop job centers are not.

• Public libraries are one of the last safe gathering places for children.  And libraries are a lifeline for kids who want to learn but don’t have the economic resources that make that easy.  (I know. I was one of them.)

• In today’s challenging economic climate, more and more people are turning to public libraries for FREE books and DVDs, FREE computers and internet access, FREE programs and classes, and much more.

These are only a few of the reasons why public libraries are vital.  I list 21 reasons in my book.

BUT library funding is being cut, sometimes by as much as two-thirds.  That means libraries have to cut hours, materials, and staff, and sometimes close branches. When libraries close or cut hours, job seekers and many other community members suffer.

That’s where I and my book come in.

I’m a professional writer and very solutions-oriented. Saving Our Public Libraries: Why We Should. How We Can includes more than 100 ways that libraries can obtain more funding.  I discovered these successful funding strategies by interviewing more than 50 library experts all over the country last year.

Most of the funding ideas in my book are being used now at one or more public libraries.  Some are traditional fundraising methods taken to a new level, like book sales that raise $1 million annually.  Many are extremely innovative ideas.  For example, seven libraries in Cuyahoga County, Ohio have been earning $8,000-9,000 per week as passport-application acceptance centers.

The funding information and success stories in my book have never brought together before.  In many cases these funding ideas have never even been published before.

Vote for your state!

My ultimate goal is to print enough books so I can give a copy to every public library in the U.S. (that’s about 16,671 libraries).  With your help here on kickstarter, I plan to begin by printing enough copies to get my books to libraries in two, three (or more) states.

And you can help me pick the states!  Donors at every level get to vote for which state/s get the first copies of my book. All public libraries in the states with the most votes will get a free copy of my helpful book.

Thanks for whatever you can contribute.  If you want to know more about me (or if you’d prefer to buy a copy of my book directly for your local library), you can go to my website: www.vision-and-values.com/saving.htm.  Thanks again.

P.S. if I exceed my goal on kickstarter, I will print more books and give them to more libraries.  So even if I’ve reached my goal, I hope you’ll consider giving.  Thank you!

FYI:  The lovely Bookingham Forest Tree on the cover of my book is the real-life entrance to the Children’s Department at Old Worthington Library in Ohio.  It was designed by RedBox Workshop © 2008.

And many thanks to the William E. Anderson Library of Penn Hills, PA, where most of my video was filmed.  Many thanks also to friends locally and Anderson library staff and patrons, who enabled me to represent visually the facts and people that I discuss in the video, all of which are real.
