Development Update #15
Hello folks, hope you're doing well!
This is going to be a shorter update than last months, though I think one of my new plans will help out with that issue in the coming months. When I make my monthly work schedules and goals, I try to split my time between things I can show you without spoiling anything with other content that's unquestionably spoilery. I didn't do so well with that this last month because I got sucked into something I'd been trying to get working for ages (and it's very nearly done!!) but you'll all have to wait for the full game to see it.
That said, there are a few things I can show this month!
Continuing on with my experiments into tree/leaf animations, I made test mockups of two scenes which use those. One is the new version of a scene that was the first scene in the demo, the other is the finished version of a scene I previewed last month.
In the above scene, I was working with leaf animations, as well as pollen particles and animated beams of light-- I still want to do some further work on the light movement because I feel its currently too subtle to notice, and work on the appearance of the particles to make them a little more 'dreamlike' if that makes sense. The look I wanted for this scene is a soft, gentle, warm, and breezy sunset, and it's very nearly there! I wanted to have this scene animated in the demo, but I just wasn't capable of doing any of those kinds of effects, so I'm happy to be working on this again and seeing how far I've come.

And one of the animations I worked on for this place (one is a major spoiler that I can't show) is this simple night scene:
More use of firefly-like particles, and more tree movement. I think the trees are too subtle when compared with the energetic movement of the fireflies, so I'll be going back into this one and making some changes.
Last, I mentioned at the start of the update that I have a new plan that will allow me to post more content when the month's work is heavy on spoilers--
Finalized character art is the solution! At least for now.
I intended to make three of these last month, but as I mentioned, I got side tracked into putting a lot of work into something else, but I'll be proceeding with posting finalized character designs every 10 or so days.
I'm in an excellent working groove right now, so I'm looking forward to diving right back in this September. Hope you all have a good month!
