We are opening a circus arts community center that will offer a variety of classes for kids and adults, we just need the gear!
Central Oregon Circus Center
It is our goal to open up Bend Oregon's first circus arts center for kids and adults. We have the warehouse, the teachers, and tremendous amounts of motivation, we just need a little bit of financial help. We are investing several thousand dollars of our own, but we can't do it all ourselves.
We have been teaching and performing circus arts around Oregon and at festivals throughout the country for the past 5 years and now it's time to bring it home and give the locals something new and exciting to do. We are giving kids and adults a new way to play and a new space to come together and create community. We have secured a warehouse just 5 minutes from downtown and are turning it into Bend Oregon's first and only Circus Center.
The center will be focused in aerial arts, with a bunch of other circus arts to boot. Here are the classes we plan to teach in the space:
- Aerial Silks
- Aerial Rope
- Trapeze (static)
- Poi spinning
- Staff & Double Staff
- Stilting & Poweriser Training
- Acro Yoga
- Partner Acrobatics
- Fire Dancing
- Yoga & Conditioning
We've got some big ideas for more projects, classes, and ways to use the space for community events, but first and foremost is teaching circus arts and creating local shows. Our first show is at Bend's Spring Festival on April 14th! Then another Circus Showcase in June at the center.
We are teaming up with the YogaSlackers http://www.yogaslackers.com and offering indoor slacklining classes as well as Acro Yoga and partner acrobatics. If you haven't heard of them, take a moment to check out one of their videos. We will be hosting a multi-day Acro Yoga extravaganza in Bend later this fall!
We really want to offer Bend's youth a place to go and connect with one another in a fun and safe environment. This summer we are working with Bend Parks & Rec and offering 3 weeks of kids circus camps happening at different times and for varying age groups. We will also have a few "Circus Bootcamps" for adults and kids throughout the summer. Once school starts up again we will have an after school curriculum to keep the kids entertained and creating something positive in their community.
We are members of AYCO, The American Youth Circus Organization, which promotes the participation of youth in circus arts. We are attending their 2012 Educators Conference in Seattle to better train ourselves and prepare the best possible experience for youth circus in Bend.
This will also be a space that we can train in to create new and exciting fire and circus shows. Our current vision with our performance troupe is to create a mini play involving fire, aerial, and circus that we will be able to perform at many local and out of town events.
Our intention is to create a fun space for people to come together, learn, laugh and have a great time. Bend has never had anything like this and we are so very happy to be able to bring some more diversity in entertainment to this town. We will have a few shows a year for public to come and witness the beauty of circus arts and to get inspired to try it themselves. Through your support we can realize this dream and fly to new heights!
