For the 2018/2019 Season, The American Renaissance Theater Company will present Equity Showcases of THREE EXCITING NEW PLAYS developed in our workshop.
UM…OM by Meghan Crosby – limited run in a Yoga Studio in Tribeca - Late January 2019. Directed by Joseph Capone.
What do four supposed strangers in a yoga studio have in common? Besides tight hips, poor balance, and shoulders that click sometimes. Open up your anahata heart chakra as you learn what connects these soul searchers to yoga and to each other. Maybe you’ll even find a little of yourself on the mat too.
FAST FOOD VOICES, by Mark Levine – limited run in a Lower East Side Bar - February/March 2019.
A humorous and insightful view of idiosyncratic New Yorkers earning their 15 minutes of fame, voicing the drama of their lives as forgotten urban dwellers.
TO SHE WHO WAITS by Robert Clyman – 12 performances in Theatre 54 at Shetler Studios - May/June 2019. Winner - 2018 Jerry Kaufman Award.
Meg left her husband, Jack, her 13 year old daughter, Hannah, and their increasingly extreme religious community three years ago. For those three years she was denied any contact with Hannah. Jack has died and the court has finally granted Meg only 12 visits to convince an openly hostile Hannah to give up her church family, the only life she has known, and move to a secular world with a mother she feels abandoned her.
WHO WE ARE
The American Renaissance Theater Company (ARTC) is New York's, multi-generational play development workshop. Over the years we’ve evolved into a diverse company of over 100 professional, award-winning writers, actors and directors, ranging in age from 25 - 95!!
Plays developed in ARTC have been produced on Broadway, Off-Broadway, regionally, and internationally. Our professional actors and directors work in film, television, stage, and new media.
We meet weekly to share our work and to receive supportive, constructive and honest feedback from our members with the goal of taking the work to the next level. And then we pass the hat to pay for the rent.
From 1976 until 1987, ARTC was a full producing Company, presenting 55 full-length plays, 50 concerts, one-person shows and shorter pieces in our theater space on Charlton St.
After losing our theatre in 1989, we re-formed as a workshop and for the next 25 years limited our presentations to public staged readings.
In 2014, we took the next step in a play's development and returned to our producing roots.
With the support of our membership, through benefits, and from Friends of ARTC, we produced the Equity showcase production of the Jerry Kaufman award-winning play, Kallie by Stuart D'Ver and ARTC became a workshop/producing company.

And the reviews came in -
...Just excellent...so entertaining...truly a wonderful festival with an extremely talented ensemble and wonderful material...Anthony Jones, Negro Ensemble Company
...the scripts are so well-written, the actors are so sharp and confident, and the pacing and direction so deft, that even the surface humor shines like gloss over the deeper comedic substance...Leslie DiLeo, Hi! Drama
...a wonderful showcase for the company of talented actors...Darryl Reilly, theaterscene.net
...what makes this show unique is the mission of the American Renaissance Theater Company: to develop “new works by a multi-generational company of professional playwrights, actors and directors.”...Ken Kaisser, Theater Is Easy
Once again we bring you the best of ARTC.
With your help we expect to raise enough to bring these scripts to vibrant life, and to make sure our work reaches all of you: those new to us, our supporters, and our partners in creativity.
$13,500 is a lot to raise, but it's actually not enough. By launching this campaign we expect to gain a foundation upon which we will continue to build. Our company members donate throughout the year and all of us work hard, on a volunteer basis, to keep ARTC running and growing.
Your money will supplement what we save and earn, and go a long way toward achieving our
2018 /2019 production goals. Come, partner with us!
If you are not already, please do become a friend of ARTC and support us in bringing these plays to the public. We are a non-profit 501(c) 3 company. ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE. Thank you!

Risks and challenges
There is always a risk in bringing new works to the public. Since 2014 we have quadrupled our list of supporters (Friends of ARTC). Our challenge lies in never letting up on our goal to bring original, provocative and entertaining works to our audience and in extending every effort to attract additional supportive friends and widen our audience in this very competitive field.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
