I have no traditional investors. Instead, I'm launching these products here on Kickstarter. The funds I raise here not only go towards manufacturing - they also help me support my charity partner, Velokhaya.com, and may go towards developing more sustainable materials and future products if enough is raised.
What You Get
Various pledge options are listed on the right of this page. As funding targets are met in the 'Range table' below, the next range will be unlocked, and pledge levels related to those items will become available. Adding to your pledge is easy. Refer to 'Add-on Instructions' down the page. All details like size, color preference, shipping information and add-on specifics will be collected via survey after this campaign has ended.
I understand that everyone has a different style, and coordinating your kit with your bike, helmet and shoes is a massive part of your buying decision – so I decided to help. You can either stick with the standard Dazzle jersey (pictured in the 'range' graphic), or you can elect to customise (or ‘Razzle’) your dazzle with a range of highlight options, for a measley AUD$12 extra. This option can be selected in the survey at completion of the campaign - the same time as you choose your size, style, gender etc.

Purpose, Proof and Plea:
Why Have This?
- It's unique - from yarn selection to finished product, this is all OORR – nothing off the rack with a just pretty design.
- It fits – Anatomical cut, and tested by pro athletes, it's guaranteed to fit right (see guarantee down the page)
- Coffee Enhanced performance – Permanent odour control, boosted sun protection, faster drying time (and who doesn't love coffee?!)
- Frog Skin Nanotech – Permanent odour control, so your garments last longer, saving you money in the long run, and saving on landfill.
- Earth friendly – post consumer and post industrial fibres recycled into beautiful fabric, soft on the skin and friendly to the environment – see the reviews for proof 'recycled' doesn't mean 'inferior' – far from it.
- Charity – a percentage of sales has been committed to helping Velokhaya.com, so your dollar does more than just buying you epic gear. Once we hit $85K, I've committed to fit out the Velokhaya Charity racing team in their own custom kit.
Retail Therapy for stressed out planet Earth:
As a species, we have proven so far that we're not great at preserving the environment if we have to go out of our way to do so. HOWEVER What we are good at, and what we all love, is consumption – who doesn't love a bit of 'retail therapy'?!
With the fashion and textile industry recognised as the 2nd biggest polluter globally, a consumer-lead shift is the fastest, easiest, and most economical way to start having a positive impact – we can literally shop our way to lower carbon emissions, less landfill and ocean pollution, less chemical waste and a brighter future for our kids. It really doesn't get any easier! The biggest barrier to this consumer lead shift is creating awareness that there are better options, and the availability of OORRsome and fashionable things to buy. That's where OORR comes in!
NB; The best thing for this industry is to reduce consumption – so please, do not buy any new garments unless you really need them – but if you do, shop responsibly, educate your peers about other options available, and demand more sustainable options from your preferred brands!
Helping others – Velokhaya.com
Since 2014, I have supported Velokhaya through OORR by donating apparel and accessories - helping out in whatever small way I could. Let's supercharge this support together. Here's what they do:
“ At Velokhaya we use cycling to involve children living in marginalised communities in a positive after-school activity, one which builds their self-esteem and keeps them off the streets and away from the social ills prevalent in their communities, such as gangsterism, crime and substance abuse. Our aim is to use cycling to grow champions on and off the bike; this is because sport gives young children the skills and opportunities they need to make a success of their lives – skills such as commitment, determination, dedication, teamwork and how to win and lose.”
As per kickstarter guidelines, I cannot raise funds directly for charity, however outside of kickstarter, I have personally committed the following; Once funding reaches AUD$85K, I will create and donate much needed cycling kit for the whole Volokhaya racing team. For every US$85K raised thereafter, I will donate a new road bike, or something of equivalent value.
My Story, and OORR:
I launched OORR in 2013 with the release of a single style of cycling jersey for men. It was developed with great attention to detail and an unwavering focus on using recycled materials. My intent was to introduce more sustainable apparel to the market – aligning products more closely to benefiting the environment we enjoy when we ride.
Since then my commitment to using sustainable materials hasn't changed, but my experience has – leading to today with more refined products, more innovation and a much greater range.
To date, the business has been driven primarily by my desire to make the world a better place for my kids. My focus on sustainability, ethical business practice and philanthropy is how I deliver on that desire, and is integral to my role as a father. I'm trying my best to lead by example. I hope my kids will be proud of what I'm trying to achieve - but also learn that you can do good things in this world, that anything is possible, and that you can have fun doing it.
What else is different?
What makes OORR different to most boutique technical apparel companies, aside from my focus on sustainability and ethical business practice, is that I control all of the elements of production – right from selecting the yarn through knitting the fabric all the way to garment design, construction and packaging. I don't just print my designs on off the shelf products – I design and control the entire process, making every product uniquely different to those you find anywhere else.
Design - A lot of work has gone into design and look – the activewear has a fashion-heavy focus, with careful colour selection and fit to match current trends; the ultralight cycling kit is a modern/retro fusion with timeless class; and the pro cycling kit blends fashion with high function. A 3D anatomical cut and 4 way stretch fabric ensures the perfect fit. Diagonal lines and check patterns are more than just a fashion statement - they act as a subconscious warning sign to drivers, helping you stay safe on the road.
Why I need your help
I'm just one guy – my resources can only take me so far! The biggest financial hurdle to production is minimum orders of fabric.
To date, my mortgage has been used to finance the product research, development and testing. I have stretched the friendship with fabric manufacturers to allow me to create and test the 6 different fabrics required for the range – but the next order is required to be in commercial bulk.
What's more, If I produce this quantity of fabric without the demand, then it would contribute to the very problem I'm striving to address. Establishing demand before production is the best way to guarantee I don't over-produce, limiting impact on the environment.
Where is it all made?
I am committed to keeping the carbon footprint of OORR as low as possible, so the majority of it's operations are centred around one city, Shanghai, limiting transport emissions.
Ideally everything would be manufactured in Shanghai to minimise the footprint, but some elements just can't be. Here is a list showing elements that are manufactured outside of Shanghai for OORR;
- 'Frog skin' Recycled Nylon fabric for bibshorts – North Carolina, USA
- TMF Custom OORR chamois pad for bibshorts (with RPET) – Italy
- IT and TP band elastic for cycling jersey and bibshort cuffs – Italy
- Zips from the YKK Natulon range (RPET) - Japan
- The coffee yarn is made from polyester* and used Starbucks coffee sourced in Taiwan.
*If we reach a stretch goal of US$370K this will be made with Recycled polyester, which will more than double the recycled content of the jerseys and activewear. There will be no discernible difference in the fabric if this happens – it will only serve to further reduce the environmental impact of the garments.
All manufacturing is carried out in facilities that are either certified by independent authorities for environmental and ethical business practices, or have been inspected by me for assurance of those standards.
My beautiful wife and amazing kids for putting up with a grumpy and often absent husband/daddy for the last 2 years.
Palle from UAV group for your amazing input and OORRsome drone skillz
Renny from Open Door Films for such an OORRsome video production, and being so chill with all of the changes
Marc Alfred for your informed, qualified and constructive advice and support and for telling it how it is.
Mark E - my friend and mentor for believing in me and setting me firmly on the path
Risks and challenges
There is a stigma that Chinese production is cheap and/or low quality, so I have taken particular care in the selection of my production partner. Extensive testing and screening of numerous manufacturers has enabled me to ensure that the production quality, environmental standards and working conditions for staff are excellent. A large number of prototyping cycles have been conducted, refining these products and manufacturing processes.
During production, I will be on the ground at the factory personally inspecting the products before shipment.
Based on this, I'm confident we will meet high quality standards on par with Italian made garments.
Because there are elements coming from several different countries, there is some risk that delays will be caused by hold ups at customs ports, or shipping delays due to mother nature. These risks are small, and also beyond my control. I will communicate any delays, should they occur.
