LiddUp is your traditional cooler with built-in lights. Our first production run will be a 50-quart cooler with a handle, wheels and cup holders.
While other coolers can give you handles and wheels, ours is the only one that offers a built-in lighting system. Our innovative design will revolutionize an industry that has been stagnant for many years.
But we have other benefits, too! Most manufacturers outsource their production overseas. We won’t! We want to give you a premium product NOT made in China or elsewhere, but here in the U.S.
THE LED LIGHTING SYSTEM:
LiddUp’s patented LED lighting system provides sufficient task lighting regardless of how full the cooler is. Their illuminating glow adds a touch of color to the occasion, and the lights will come in a variety of colors for complete customization.
This lighting system will provide you with 40 hours of continuous light or up to two years of normal cooler usage. And all it takes is a 9-volt battery that can be switched out just like your TV remote or fire detector. Our patented lighting system turns off when you shut the lid so you don’t have to worry about wasting juice. There are no switches: the lights work automatically.
The system is built-in: 100% shock-resistant and fully waterproof. During testing we submerged them in water, smashed them with bats and even threw them out of a truck going 80 mph and the lights ALWAYS turned on – every time.
We have big plans for LiddUp. Once our initial production process is perfected we will offer customers the ability to customerize their cooler. You want your favorite team colors or maybe pink lights for breast cancer awareness? Done. You’ll be able to pick and choose the lighting arrangement to your liking.
The vision and concept of the LiddUp cooler was conceived by our founder, Jayson Sandberg, while accompanying his family on a yearly camping trip to Lee Canyon, NV. Each time Jayson went to his dark cooler for his favorite chilled beverage, he returned to the campfire with frozen fingers and the wrong brand of brew. The frustrating decision between going back to the cooler to find what he was looking for or just drink what he’d grabbed in the dark became a common occurrence and provided much comedy as other family members experienced the exact same problem. Literally. It was then that Jayson realized the need for a cooler with lights in it.
The design development and engineering on this cooler has been many years in the making. We have built and tested over 200 prototypes with each iteration helping to guide us to meet our high quality standards.

LiddUp has been issued four patents on the interior lighting technology and we’ve finalized our CAD design drawings for our first three production models. We also took our prototypes on national television and displayed it with pride to the panel of investors on ABC’s Shark Tank.

The cooler market is a beast, generating $625M in annual gross sales in 2011 and LiddUp is looking to expand that market even more. Every time we bring a cooler to an event we get the same two questions: Where do I get one and how much is it?
Coleman, Rubbermaid and Igloo dominate the market capturing over 90% of all cooler sales. But we are ready to change the cooler world by launching our product and disrupting their market. But at night when you are sitting around the campfire and you walk over to the cooler you have to use a flashlight, headlamp, or even a cell phone to find the beverage of your choice. Relief agencies such as FEMA and the Red Cross regularly send thousands of coolers packed full of supplies to disaster relief zones. They are often in situations where power is limited and a lighted cooler would be very practical. So why not incorporate emergency task lighting into those units?

MEET THE COOLER GUYS:
JAYSON SANDBERG is the inventor of the LiddUp Cooler. After spending close to seven years in his garage perfecting the LED lighting design he finally came up with the prototypes you see here. Jayson has worked in the dental industry for 27 years, focusing on sales and customer service, cultivating his tinkering mind to come up with the LiddUp Cooler. He is a family man who just wants to be able to provide for his family. Getting the cooler into market has been his dream since he accidentally opened a soda instead of a beer while camping in the dark.
TAYLOR GWIAZDON holds an engineering degree and is currently a marketing executive for a prominent Las Vegas resort and casino. Taylor’s diverse background gives him many of the creative thinking tools and problem solving skills to get the job done right. His hard work ethic and full steam ahead attitude allows him to accomplish whatever task lies in front of him. His collaborative leadership style is an ideal fit for LiddUp, LLC’s entry into the marketplace.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs):
How many types of coolers does LiddUp offer? Size, light color, wheels, handle?
LiddUp’s first coolers will be the 50-quart size with brilliant white LEDs. After the LiddUp team is satisfied with the first coolers, the 75 QT. and 100 QT. sizes will quickly follow. We will also be adding the selection of LED color combinations as research and quality permit us to do so. The 50 QT. and the 100 QT. will have rugged wheels and a convenient pull handle with molded lifting handles built-in.
Where are the LiddUp coolers going to be made?
The U.S.A. LiddUp has always believed that all of the manufacturing NEEDS to be completed right here in the U.S. not only because it is the right thing to do but we will need to keep a very close eye on our quality control as we refuse to produce an inferior product.
Do the LED lights add any additional heat?
No. The LEDs being used do not create any significant or noticeable heat. This is a question that needed to be addressed from the beginning as it would defeat the purpose of trying to keep things cool. LiddUp keeps things cooler.
Can I buy a LiddUp retro-fit kit for my existing cooler?
No. The LiddUp technology is integrated into the cooler body and is not a product sold separately that can be added to an existing cooler.
How durable are the lights, do they break easily?
Very durable! These LEDs have been heavily tested and short of intentionally making a focused effort to break them, they will last longer than the actual cooler.
How long do the batteries last?
A very long time. The testing we have done has given us approximately 40 hours of consistent use (with the lid up) which equals about 2 years of normal cooler use. We are consistently researching and testing to make this an even more efficient system.
How easy is it to change the batteries?
Easy. Changing the batteries is as easy as changing the batteries in your TV remote.
When will I receive my cooler if I order one?
Right now we are scheduled to be in production and have available coolers by the beginning of October, 2013! It’s time to get LiddUp!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Why didn't we introduce this product years ago? Years were spent and hundreds of prototypes were built to perfect this design. If we are going to do something we are going to do it right! No one wants a product that doesn't work well, so we figured it out, secured our intellectual property and developed amazing relationships with top-notch suppliers and manufacturers. The LiddUp team has also learned through years of experimentation, testing and analysis how NOT to make an LED cooler.
- Production Issues: No one has built a cooler with lights in it on a mass production level. LiddUp is the first company to incorporate a lighting system into a cooler and we may run into production issues. We are working with professionals from both the LED and plastics disciplines to mitigate this risk and since we will be made in the United States we will have the ability to quickly, and directly, solve any issues that come up.
- Quality Control: A major focus in our project is quality control, which is why it is our goal to manufacturer here in the United States. If our production was overseas we would rely upon 3rd party QA/QC teams and it could take weeks to find out and solve a problem. Keeping production here at home allows us quick and direct access to all of our facilities and consummate U.S.-based experts.
- The Knock Offs: Once the big manufacturers see our product they are going to want to replicate it. And some will surely try to copy it. That is a battle we are prepared to handle and will do so accordingly if this arises.
