About this project
What Is Minor Thread Clothing, LLC?
The Minor Thread Clothing company first and foremost is a Jacksonville support group. More than a line of clothing, we are a company dedicated to the city of Jacksonville. You would be hard pressed to find a shirt printed on our website site that isn't either about the city itself or The Jaguars that occupy it.
We started in 2010 by selling our t-shirts out of backpacks through varies parking lots before Jaguar home games. Slowly we built up a small reputation for the witty sayings and the unique design of our shirts.
Since then we have been featured on Action News twice and also appeared in The Florida Times Union, most notably because of our "Khan You Dig It?" shirts, in honor of the new Jaguar owner Shahid Khan.
Why do we need your money?
Simply, to grow. To allow ourselves to set up a retail location for you, our customers, to be able to pick up shirts from a store instead of having to pay shipping when you live in the same city.
What are we going to do with your money?
The money earned from this kickstarter will go towards a few different things:
-The cost of opening up a retail location, such as money for the shirt racks and displays.
-To convert our shirts to American made garments. We strongly disagree with sweatshop laboring of any kind, and are trying to sway away from it completely. So far we have only printed on shirts that are outsourced to third world countries (hanes, gildan, fruit of the loom), where they have no standards for working conditions or wages. This is something we are strongly against, as we plan to convert all of our shirts too 100% American Made products.
-We also plan on purchasing a new piece of machinery that will expand what we are currently able to print. This new machine will cost $33,000 by itself (almost ten times what our goal for this kickstarter is) so the money raised will go towards our downpayment.
Instead of simply applying for loans or seeking out grants, I feel it would be awesome to involve my customers and my city. By using Kickstarter, I would be able to give everyone who helps me something in return. I found out about Kickstarter by listening to a comic podcast (yes, i am a nerd) in which an author was talking about how he was able to fulfill a life long dream of actually having his own work published. That led me to think of how it has been my dream to truly get Minor Thread exposed for more people to not only see but to experience. If it works for comics, films, and music why cant it work for a small clothing company?
What are the risks?
Technically... none. If we don't reach our goal, then you lose nothing out of pocket. If (when) we achieve our goal, then you are able to get some exclusive merch! Sounds like a win/win to me!
