UPDATE ON REWARDS: I have removed the limit of 10 at the $100 level so anyone contributing at this level will receive the rewards listed. I also added NEW REWARDS at the $10, $75, and $600 levels. Thanks!
The funds I am seeking will be used for the further development of my middle grade novel. I will be able to pay for a professional developmental editor to help me prepare my manuscript for publication. I will be able to attend upcoming writer conferences so that I can pitch my book in person to literary agents and publishers. I will have the funds to pay for future website development to promote the sale of this book. This Kickstarter will also allow for more distribution and promotion of this novel to a wider audience of readers. Additionally, I would like to collaborate with others to develop a companion piece for middle grade educators who would like to teach about the accomplishments of Nikola Tesla in their classrooms!
The talented local illustrator, Mark Mattson, said he was "riveted" by my manuscript. Here are a few sketches he sent of my protagonist, Emic Rizzle.

Here's my daughter talking a little bit about the book after she read the draft.
EMIC RIZZLE, TINKERER, is a middle grade novel with a projected word count of 35,000. 12-year-old Emic Rizzle’s world is turned upside down when she discovers that her grandfather was a spy during WWII. After moving from Chicago to a small town in North Carolina, she goes through his things and discovers spy gadgets, a strange black notebook, and postcards from someone named Hélène. When she and her new trouble-maker friend, Dublin, lists his old spy camera on eBay saying it had belonged to her grandfather, they are pulled into a world of intrigue. It turns out there is a roll of film still in the camera, containing images of the Gestapo’s Most Wanted, the mysterious Hélène (her real name is Nancy Wake), and she was the secret love of Emic’s grandfather. Her grandfather’s notebook contains the lost secrets of the famous Nikola Tesla, a genius scientist and inventor, her grandfather befriended after being sent by the OSS to steal his secrets. F.B.I. agents from the Office of Alien Property show up and they want those secrets back! Readers follow Emic throughout her discoveries at home and adventures at school. In the end, the government pays Emic enough money for the clandestine items so her father can open his own Italian restaurant and an international plot to keep Tesla’s undiscovered inventions a secret is revealed. With this newfound knowledge from the lost blueprints hidden in her grandfather's notebook, Emic has the knowledge and tinkering ability to become the next great inventor for her generation.
