We've fielded a ton of questions about our project over the last couple of days. However, we can only say so much. Perhaps it's best if our customers speak on our behalf?
If you haven't already, please visit the customer gallery of our website. Read the comments and check out the hundreds of pictures that people from all around the world have shared with us. With limited production capabilities, we've been able to deliver an outstanding product and ship it safely around the world. If our Kickstarter project is successful, the sky is the limit for our American made guitar parts and we will finally have the resources to provide a complete guitar kit. The same kits premiering here on Kickstarter!

The most rewarding part about our business is seeing and hearing the incredible creations our customers build. We hope we have the opportunity to work with you and perhaps one day you'll share your own one-of-a-kind guitar with us. Thank you everyone who has pledged! For those of you with questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
For the first time ever, we are offering fully assembled custom guitars, and making them available at a ridiculous price. Baritones to blues screamers, there are only 12 for sale. The guitars will have a two pickup, three-way switch, one volume and one tone configuration. Choose from the following components below before we change our mind! A minimum pledge of $699 is required for this offer.
Please review the part options below. If you have any questions about the parts that are included in this offer, please contact us!
Don't want to build a Res-O-Glas? We are selling three of our original prototypes as shown in the photos below. Each comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Each prototype has a story. The red Jetson is seen and heard in our Kickstarter Youtube video being played by Bob Pace. The seafoam green Belmont is the guitar that adorned the masthead of our website for nearly two years. The red Deco guitar is the first Baritone we’ve ever built! It features a USA made Gumby style neck with a nitro finish. Act fast, these will go quickly! If you are not fast enough to grab one of the original prototypes, we are going to offer three fully assembled replicas of each body style later this week.
Five reasons to buy a Res-O-Glas body or guitar kit on Kickstarter:
- Free American made tailpiece upgrade!
- Free American made transparent pickguard!
- Free chrome accessories kit!
- Free domestic shipping!
- You are supporting American manufacturing!
We’ve received lots of requests to explain our Kickstarter stretch goals. So we decided to keep it simple and include the stretch goals with all kit and body purchases!
Don’t wait until the end to support our project. We need your support now! (Bass kits receive a free T-shirt and second pickup in place of the tailpiece offer above).
How Does Kickstarter Work?
Kickstarter helps small businesses raise funds for creative projects via crowd funding. But there’s a catch, it’s all or nothing. If we don’t hit our funding goal of $26,000 we go home empty handed! No pledge is too small, as every bit goes towards our goal. To help, you can purchase rewards on the right side of the page. All domestic rewards ship for free. it's as easy as buying from Amazon - In fact, they process the reward transactions! If the project reaches its funding goal, we will send a survey to all supporters where they can indicate the color, sizes and optional accessories related to their reward purchases.
The original Res-O-Glas fiberglass guitars were produced in Chicago between 1962 and 1967 under several well-known guitar monikers. Vintage Res-O-Glas Guitars have graced the hands of some of the most famous guitar players of all time (Google Search: Res-O-Glas History Greatest Players). Today, an original Res-O-Glas instrument can command thousands of dollars in the collectible vintage market.
What happens when industry guitar vets and musicians come together in a room where cold beer flows freely? They talk about guitars, and eventually they gripe about the lack of affordable guitars today made in the USA. Discussion will also touch upon how the best vintage guitar examples are in the hands of "collectors" rather than working musicians due to the outrageous prices vintage guitars now command. Years ago we found ourselves in the middle of such a discussion. So instead of complaining, we decided to do something about it. After thousands of hours of research and development we are proud to say that we’ve succeeded with our goal and brought back an iconic American guitar at an affordable price. Res-O-Glas Guitars officially started when we secured the Res-O-Glas Trademark. We then sought out the best local manufactures and guitar builders to help us with our project. In the meantime, we perfected our online selling skills shipping hundreds of guitar bodies to happy customers worldwide.
Have you ever wanted to build a guitar, but felt you didn’t possess the necessary skills or own the right tools? Are you tired of seeing the same cookie-cutter guitar body shapes imported from China? Most guitar kits limit the builder’s creativity by allowing only one predetermined outcome. Worse yet, they require advanced painting skills and expensive tools to complete. Guitar Kits USA is proud to announce an American made guitar kit unlike any other. A kit that offers endless designs, a truly unique tone, and requires no painting. We proudly present…the Res-O-Glas Guitar.
Each of the above creations started with one of our Res-O-Glas bodies. The builders added their own unique parts to end up with their one-of-a-kind creations. Please note, many of the guitar parts shown in the above photos are not available via our Kickstarter project. This montage is to demonstrate the design flexibility of our product. These are actual customer photos. For customer testimonials and more ideas of what's possible with our guitar bodies, visit: http://www.guitarkitsusa.com/25.html
Our Res-O-Glas bodies allow you to build your own one-of-a-kind creation or a clone of a famous vintage model of yesteryear. There is no routing on our bodies limiting where you can place the pickups. The design utilizes a surface mount pickup configuration and floating style bridge allows you to make a one, two or three pickup electric guitar (pickups purchased separately unless specified in the rewards description). Our neck pockets accept the most common bolt-on necks; those that have a 2-3/16” wide heel.
Our guitar bodies are hand made right here in Iowa. We’ve increased the number of molds that we have at our disposal and we’ve “stockpiled” a reserve of our most popular body style/colors and pre-made components to fulfill your Kickstarter orders.
At Guitar Kits USA, we won’t commit to something unless we are 100% sure that we can do it right. We started our business almost 10 years ago offering a single replacement part to vintage guitar enthusiasts. By offering this one part, we made guitarists happy around the world by bringing their old, unplayable guitars back to life. Through the years we have slowly added more and more parts and each new item has been enthusiastically embraced. Only now do we have all the parts sourced to offer a complete guitar kit (see the $395 and up rewards). In fact, the pickups, bridge bases and necks found at various rewards levels are new products and have never been offered via our Website. If we are successfully funded, the Kickstarter format allows us to obtain funding for new products that we have never been able to offer before.
The Kickstarter community cheers for the underdog and values American made products. They love a good story and embrace new product designs that are unconventional. We fit the description of all the above items.
HOW DIFFICULT ARE THEY TO BUILD?
The above photo shows an unassembled $395 complete guitar kit (top) and the finished guitar (below). The pots and jack are prewired, requiring only two solder joints to connect the supplied retro-style pickup to the pots. The pickup is surface mounted, so no routing is required. It's that easy! We include all the screws, tuners and strings needed to complete the guitar. Just pick up some epoxy at your local hardware store and you can start your build. To hear this guitar in action, be sure to check out our Kickstarter video above!
In the past, we have never been able to offer complete guitar kits or guitar body combos. If we reach our goal, your funding will allow us to create the parts necessary for these new products!
Risks and challenges
We’ve shipped hundreds of guitar bodies both domestically and internationally. So, we’re not new to this rodeo. To prepare for the Kickstarter campaign we have stopped taking orders via our website. In essence, we are devoting all of our resources to this project. We’ve even built extra time into our projected ship dates. On the rare occasion there is a production delay, we promise to be forthright communicating any delivery date challenges we encounter.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
