CHARLIE THE ART CAR - http://kck.st/CandyMt
OUR NEW GOAL IS $8,000!
Q: Why do you need to raise more then $6,450?
A: Our actual budget is $14,000.
We'll make up the gap with other fundraisers and camp fees, but that's a lot of bake sales between now and August 29th. We can do it, but the more we raise on Kickstarter, the easier it will be. Here's a list of just some of the things we still have to buy:
$1,900 for used rims and tires (Charlies must be replaced)
$540 in registration
$600 for insurance
$600+ in other truck repairs
$600+ for on board safety equipment
$2,000 to build Candy Mountain
It adds up fast.
And now back to our regularly scheduled programing...
He's had his kidney removed, his TV stolen, his horn used for a snowman's nose. And now we're going to turn Charlie the Unicorn into an 28' long x 16' wide art car for Burning Man 2011! (His suffering knows no limits, the poor bastard.)
SHUN THE NON-BELIEVER!
Yes, cruising the Playa with Charlie is a bold dream. But dammit, someone has to do it, and we at Camp Charlie are just stupid enough to think we can pull this off. To that end we've bought a monster 1979 Chevy C60 flatbed on top of which we'll be adding:
- 16' wide welded steel first floor with couches and Candy Canes so there's lots of space for dancing and lounging
- A welded steel 26' foot long upper deck for more dancing plus DJ's
- 20'+ tall Candy Mountain 20' complete with a Candy Cave lounge with bean bags, a bed, and mood lighting
- Lots and lots of lights (sparkle sparkle!)
- And of course Charlie, his head protruding from Candy Mountain
IT'LL BE AN ADVENTURE!
We've done the basic structural and safety analysis. Working out of Big Art Labs in downtown LA our crack team of misfits (Ken, Armando, Fawn, Mike, Dave and many others) are finishing the repairs to the truck and getting it Playa-fied. We'll start welding the main structure soon, followed by Candy Mountain and Charlie. You can follow along on our FB group page.
IT'S A LAND OF SWEETS AND JOY, AND JOYNESS!
Why are we on Kickstarter? Steel for the superstructure, lighting, sound system, generators, safety equipment, new tires and rims, (we didn't know they were bad when we got the truck - ouch), decorations, fabric for Candy Mountain, and on and on. Yeah, this is adding up quick. We can cover some of it, but until one of hits the lottery, a little help would be good. We need at least $6,750 but if we raise more we'll just keep adding lights and sound systems and couches and goodies. The more the better!!!
