What is a prototype?

A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

Proof of Concept

Explorations that test ideas and functionality.

Functional Prototype

Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.

Appearance Prototype

Looks like the final product, but is not functional.

Design Prototype

Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

Production Prototype

Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

About

As mentioned earlier, this is already a working model, and i have sold a good number already. However, there have been limitations to changes i can make to the shape due to the technology used in the printer i already own. I need a more advanced printer to make this product really shine with smoother curves and a textured surface as well as being able to print recesses just not possible at the moment. This project has been evolving for about a year already, and the current version is the 16th iteration of the design. This design allows access to the sd card when you want to change it out, and allows for a 4700mha flat battery to be installed in the back. The top cover allows you access to the hdmi port on the pi, as well as the headphone jack. There is a single usb port on the side to connect your keyboard or second joystick. The screen is 5 inches for great gaming resolution and give you the feel of a handheld made years ago so you can experience intense nostalgia. The analog stick is nice and responsive as well as the dpad for all your favorite games. Most all of the parts can be bought on adafruit, and the design files for the 3d parts are available on thingiverse already. The software changes that need made for retropie are simple copy paste instructions. This was designed for the intermediate builder to take on with ease, and if your a beginner, it may be a little challenging. Also, here is the link for the thingiverse files of the previous version. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2451219

Risks and challenges

The only challenge for this project will be learning the slicing software for the new printer, and possibly making changes to the existing files if need be.
