About this project
Catherine (Kate) Carrington is finally ready to settle down with her significant other. The problem is that she hasn't had any luck finding someone that might fill that role. Then, one night, she crosses paths with Adam Ortíz. He's attractive, a successful OB/GYN, and also looking to settle down and find his Mrs. Right. Adam also just happens to be a trans-man.
This comic shows the love story of Kate and Adam and all the related events. It shows their individual personalities and those of their close friends. Their lives are full of interesting and funny things. Life isn't always easy, but it sure is entertaining.
(This comic isn't meant to describe the idea of being trans or the process of transitioning. Adam is just the way he is. He started living as a man years before this story takes place. It leads to some slightly more complicated situations but he and Kate take it in stride.)
For some character information:
Check out Kelci's (the artist) blog! She recently posted a mock interview with the main characters from the comic.
What this Funds
After writing and planning the first story arc, it came out to 42 pages. This is what I am funding. By updating twice a week that means we could run the comic for 21 weeks.
Forty-two pages is a lot of work hours for the artist and so the majority of the amount we are asking for is to cover her fees.
To break it down for anyone who wants to know:
- 65% is going to pay for the art
- 30% goes to supplying the rewards to thank you for supporting us
- 5% is reserved for unexpected expenses or problems
You'll notice a big 0% goes to me, but that's alright because all I ask is to see this comic be created and read by others. I don't want to keep it to myself, it ruins the fun of writing it.
Example of the Comic

The Top Reward
The top reward we are offering is for you to become a character in this world. Your name and likeness (or a reasonable character description) would be put into a recurring close friend of Kate or Adam. The character's personality will be their own, but you will influence their appearance and name.
So, who will fill the empty characters in my script? It is still unknown but I really hope to meet you soon.
If we reach our stretch goal of $4200 we will update three times a week! This will allow you to read more of the story every week and find out what happens next faster. It will also allow us to produce more pages, so you are guaranteed 63 Pages instead of 42.
Reward Delivery Information
We currently plan to have all the physical rewards shipped out by March 15, 2015 when we post the first strip online. If any delays occur we will email you with an updated estimated shipping time.
Those that have a reward that involves being part of the comic will be emailed which page they will be part of, or which is the first page of their appearance depending on reward. These emails will be sent when the final script for the first 42 is done on January 1, 2015.
Risks and challenges
The timeline for this project is both rigid and (hopefully) easily achievable for myself and the artist. Scripting of the first 42 pages will be done by January 1, 2015. That is when the artist can start to produce the finished pages. By March 15, 2015 we will have enough pages completed to start posting online.
The biggest challenge will be getting the art and the website completed on time. Along with the art for the project the art for the rewards has to be done by the same artist and sent to the printers.
Thankfully, having two creators will help to prevent delays as much as possible. Once the artist has completed her part, I will be in charge of getting all the rewards printed (when applicable) and sent out to you all. This allows her to continue doing art while I worry about the rewards.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
