Even people who live under rocks know that unsung bands have more going against them than ever. Now imagine finding a “condemned” notice on the building where your 11-piece Soul/Punk/Reggae band has spent nearly 12 months making its best record yet. What would you do? How do you stay on course?
If you’re from New London, there probably isn't a band that has given you *more* joy and memorable nights than The Hempsteadys. Connecticut has experienced the Beat that Moves Hempstead Street for nearly 10 years -- and our music, shows, and fan love just keep improving. Evidently the Universe is saying it’s time for the next level. You may have thought to yourself "The Hempsteadys are great! They must be rich!" Boy, are you wrong. Listen, it's hard enough to be a band with 11 members — let alone one facing sudden homelessness — let alone one with several members who blow loads of band money on their Fabergé egg addiction. (Don't worry; we got our eye on them now.)
Well, now’s your chance to not only empower us to continue being great, but also to take that Hempsteady magic into your home. Help us release our latest record.
The funds we raise on Kickstarter will be used to:
Press our new album, 'Séance! Seance!,' on 12" vinyl.
Create album art and layout with Dismay Design
Produce, shoot and edit a new music video with Mike Rivkees from Mickey Rickshaw.
Shoot new press photos.
Print merchandise (shirts, stickers, koozies, buttons, tote bags).
Digitally Distribute Seance! Seance! across all major platforms (like Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora)
Promote the album through the press and social media.
Cover fees assessed by Kickstarter.

What we’ve already completed:
Recording & Mixing at Big Nice Studios
Mastering with Kyle Black
After releasing our first full-length album, "El Amor de los Muertos," in 2015, we set out to solidify the Hempsteady legacy by creating our own Great American Rock & Roll album. We also wanted this record to be more meaningful and personal. There was no room to be scared of where these goals would lead -- whether we ended up trying to change the whole game or just blurring a few boundaries, we kept it wide open.
We spent almost a year working to accomplish this, writing, rehearsing, and demoing these songs. in our practice space. So when we suddenly found ourselves homeless and out of resources, our determination to give these songs the life they deserve only intensified.A week at Big Nice Studios in Lincoln, Rhode Island, began the religious experience that was the "Seance! Seance!' recording session. We experimented and meticulously crafted a sound as big as the giant walls and ceilings of the studio’s abandoned textile mill space. Everyone involved knew we had something special on our hands, but the excitement took on new life when we got our final masters from acclaimed LA-based engineer, Kyle Black. Despite interest from several labels, and spending all we had on the recording, we felt our best option for this extremely personal piece of art was to put the album out ourselves. Now we’re stretching out to reach the finish line.
We want to bring this album to the fans who've been with us since the start and to the new ones who keep this crazy thing alive. And while we’ll gladly take more, what we really need is for you to pre-order an album that you deserve to have and know you want. Because after releasing four EPs, a single, and a full-length album over almost a decade, we finally know how to give our art the care and attention it requires. That is what you’re enabling when you support this campaign. Invest in seeing what The Hempsteadys do next.
Thank you for being with us all these years. We wouldn't be in this position without all of you and couldn't be happier to have you along our journey, wherever it takes us.
Risks and challenges
Sure, we have challenges ahead: Getting records out to all of you, reaching the right people in the press, making music videos that can show the world why The Hempsteadys should be in their soundtrack, fitting 11 people and no less than 15 faberge eggs into our press photos... to name a few. We are lucky to have both an excellent plan and team in place which will also allow The Hempsteadys to remain independent as we drive Séance! Séance! home. This is hard enough for most DIY bands. It is even harder considering the operating expenses that come with having 11 members. It is even harder when we are *still* financially recovering from the sudden loss of our studio space a year ago. Without a successful Kickstarter campaign, the album probably won't see a vinyl release. Without a successful campaign, this crazy phenomenon we've all been a part of may never take on it's next form. Without a successful campaign, the P-Funk of Street Punk will not get a better shot at bringing the world into the glory of the Dance Party for the Working Class.
