trying to raise funds so I can release my debut novel; Not In The Eye, as
an analogue, tangible, in hand, physical, dead tree paperback.
The book was released as an e-book online, and has been received respectfully, and I have had several requests for a physical print-run, hence this Kickstarter campaign.
This is the synopsis for the story:
In a world running rapidly out of new ideas, the most precious commodity is innovation.
In a future so near that it may already be upon us, Western society faces cultural bankruptcy.
Our creative heritage has been looted, recycled
and plagiarised to the point of exhaustion. The entertainment
industry has traded artistic merit for commercial success and mass
appeal. Everything is just a rehash of something that came before.
Nothing is original. When
a radical new phenomenon erupts (quite literally) onto the porno
scene, it changes the industry forever, and forces audiences, jaded
by endless reiteration, to sit up and take notice.
It’s a watershed moment in these culturally bereft times, and – for a select few – it’s a chance to make some serious money. But wherever there’s serious money to be made, you can bet there’s a lawsuit just around the corner. Join Indigo Julius, self-styled godfather of NuGonzo™ journalism, as he searches for the story behind the story behind the most controversial porn sensation in history, and examines its far-reaching consequences.
Across a series of probing interviews with the stars of this media spectacular, Indigo brings you their compelling – if often conflicting – versions of events, as everyone tries to stake a claim in this pornographic goldrush.
Sounds good eh?
Don't take my word for it, check the reviews on Amazon, including this review by Top 50 Amazon book reviewer M. Dowden:
You may look at this book and think it's an adult novel and will therefore be full of sex scenes. Let me reassure you that although this is based mainly around the porn scene, this isn't an erotic novel. Purportedly written by a journalist this is the book that he hopes will bring him in yet more money.Told in a series of interviews with the main characters this is very funny and is full of satire. I think that most people are aware that the porn industry goes through phases, for instance you have the girl next door, followed by the teen having sex with an old man, and then just crinklies, and so on.
Of course as the internet has grown more and more sex is free, which in real life has affected the industry, and they have had to find new ways to fight back. What if you came up with a new concept, something totally original? You would make loads of money out of it - and this is just what happens here.
As a new concept is introduced and patented, and lots of money is made, so the court cases start appearing. First up is the case of who owns the idea, as John Thomas, a writer claims he came up with the idea, and it was stolen.
This is a very funny story that takes in the cult of celebrity, making money, litigation, and of course the porn industry. If you like books such as Thank You for Smoking which are intelligently written as well as satirical and very funny, then you should really enjoy this.
Not In The Eye is not recommended for anyone below the age of 18, partly because they wouldn't like it; to them the world still looks like a good place and the future a promising prospect, but mostly it's not recommended because it has sex scenes in it (even if they are played for laughs rather than eroticism).
This is the first printing of this book and will be clearly marked as such, and will be the only ever printing of the book with this original cover design by Nick Calloway. Any future printings will have a new cover.
Not In The Eye was edited by Nico Reznick, whose debut novel "Anhedonia" is due for release on Amazon Kindle any day now, so please check it out.
This is your chance to get in on the ground floor and support a creator with a wholly original story and set of characters (no fan fiction retooling here).
Once you get the book in hand, it's yours to do with as you please. Display it proudly on a bookshelf. Even better; read it, then display it on your bookshelf. Better yet: read it, share it with a friend, get them to read it and share it with their friends, then you can all talk, blog, social network about it until everyone around you is sick of your voice, and then you can mention it some more in the slim hope that maybe, just maybe the author will become JK Rowling famous, and your obscure first printing from a humble crowd-sourcing campaign will become worth mega money in years to come.
But that's an awful, cynical reason to back something. Shame on you!

Risks and challenges
The book is written and ready to go.
I have a printers lined up and ready to go.
The only real risk and challenges I can see, is the danger of a typo slipping through. This is why we writer types have editors - not to catch the mistakes, but so we have someone to blame.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
