About this project
“If space is the field for memory, and if memory is the basis of our narrative self-invention, then we must live in some seam between inside and outside, some corridor between the place we make and the place that makes us.”
My current story is pretty simple. I'm a photographer who hasn't been taking nearly enough photos lately. I miss making images. Nothing sets my heart a-flutter more than the Midwestern landscape. Despite my efforts to utilize my current urban setting (Philadelphia) for my photographic purposes, I need to take my cameras and ideas on the road.
The Six Week Trip
I'm packing up my life, leaving behind the city, and embarking on a six week photographic journey. I'm going to continue to document my ideas of personal relationships and connections formed or neglected with people and landscapes.
I have a vehicle secured, a slew of cameras, a (tentative) route planned out, and friends to stay with along the way. Most importantly, I have an arsenal of photographic ideas ready to be played out across the country.
All I lack is sufficient funding. That's where you can help me. I have some cash saved up, but with the price of gas and film alone, I still need some more funds to make this trip possible.
The money I raise from Kickstarter will be used to help cover gas, camera film, printing finished photographs, and publishing a book.
About My Work
I see my photography as a means of documenting or constructing a personal narrative of isolation, with or without actual elements of isolation. The landscapes are beautiful but empty, simple but overwhelming. My relationships are based on love, but also thwarted by distance. Since moving to the East Coast from South Dakota, I continue to find solace but also conflict in expansive landscapes and familiar portraits.
You can view my website here for further visual information.
Any little bit you can contribute will help! I'm offering up some pretty great prizes (think serious fine art mixed with snazzy road trip trinkets and mix CDs) for each backer, so don't feel like your contribution will go unrewarded!
Feel free to ask me any questions you may have or give me any tips of places I should see on the road!
