The aim of this project is to raise funds to have printed copies made of my new Mini Skeins Project book. At the moment the book is available as a PDF but we would like hard copies to sell, for those people who don't like reading on a tablet or computer.
This little book is a collection of patterns and projects made with 5 or less 50m mini skeins. It’s a compilation of Beaker Button Mini Skein patterns, which are sent out with the Beaker Button Mini Skein club, so there is a real mixture of things to do, including knitting, crochet and Dorset button jewellery. All the patterns are made with Beaker Button Bountiful 4ply yarn, but you could use any of the fabulous little skeins that you will undoubtedly have stashed away. Or you could use up those odds and ends of sock yarn that you can never bear to throw away. Most of the patterns incorporate Dorset buttons. I’ve added each of the button patterns at the back of the book. I’ve made suggestions as to which buttons to use but feel free to change them.
Knitting patterns include: Trainer Socks, A Day in the Sky Cowl, Reivaulx Bookmark, Quirky Christmas Ornaments, Claire Mittens, Poinsettia Necklace, Flint Arrowhead Necklace, Mossy Phone Sock Crochet Patterns include: Hello sailor neck Wrap, Violets Necklace, Tiny Treats Bag, Celtic Cuff Button Projects include: Merivale Necklace, Templar Bracelet The book also has Dorset button patterns for Crosswheel, Templar Cross, Ammonite, Daisy Chain, yarrell and a hints and tips section.
I’ve been crafting with wool for 35 years, having learnt at my Gran’s knee all the things you’d expect. I’ve always had a passion for Dorset buttons, and if you take knitting away from me you may as well lock me up in a padded room, so it seemed logical to start the mini skein club and combine the two crafts. I often tell people that learning Dorset buttons isn’t taking on a new hobby, it’s simply adding to the skill set you already have. I hope this little book serves to prove that. Have fun! Jen
Risks and challenges
The book is already written and the printers are primed and ready to go. The mini skeins will be dyed as soon as we have final numbers. The only foreseeable delay will be if the weather affects the yarn drying times and we've hopefully accounted for that in the lead time for the project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
