This is Exile Saga. This is our dream. This is your game. Follow the story of three young heroes and their companions as they seek to unravel the mystery of the world's grim fate, a fate deeply intertwined with their own.
Stand with them as they fight the overwhelming Empire of Nera, a demonic empire who invaded and conquered the entire world, enslaving or destroying all but the last remaining bastions of humanity.
Walk with them as our heroes follow a trail of secrets, fight their own inner demons, find their strength and courage - all in the name of hope, love and vengeance.

Seven years ago, the project leader (Me, I'm Mark. Hi!) sat down with a good friend and started writing a story that had been running around in our minds for a little while. This story became the skeleton of this project, the first iteration of Exile Saga. We didn't realise then that it would end up as a commercial RPG project.
Seven years of refining, revising, completely deleting and rewriting the plot in order write that story. The story we wanted to tell.
Creating games has always been a dream of mine, and of the members of my team. You can tell a story in so many ways; you can write it down as a novel, you can create an animated film about it, you can dream up a play or a collection of poems or a song...
Or you can create a game.
A video game to me is a mix of all of those things: writing, music, poems, visuals... and then it adds one last, and very important ingredient to the mix: You!
Creating a game is our way of telling this story, and including you, the player, in it.

So... what is the deal here? Why should you be interested in Exile Saga?
Well, Exile Saga is a Role Playing Game (RPG) with elements of an Adventure Game.
Exile Saga has a lot of classic and custom features. Among them are:
Action Battle System
No more random encounters. Pull out your weapon and assign your skills to the quickbar. It's time to dish out some realtime damage!
Customize each characters unique abilities and create your very own mix of combat skills.
Magic, Swords and Guns
Classic fantasy weaponry; destroy your enemies from afar or get up close and personal!
Overcome deep darkness, deadly traps, monsters and powerful bosses - all in realtime!
One of the most important things in RPGs is a good story. We spent seven years on this one, developing the twists and secrets you are about to encounter.

Just as our players come from diverse backgrounds, so to do they use a wide variety of platforms! As such, we offer The Exile Saga on Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. Don't see the platform you'd like to play on? Send us a message and let us know, we might find a way to make it happen! We also offer demos for all three platforms, so you can try the game before you pledge.

For quite a few reasons, really.
One is funding the project, of course. Creating a game is a tremendous effort, no matter what engine you use to build it in or how many people you have on your dev team.
Creating a game is costly, and this game would be nigh impossible without Kickstarter.
Moreover, Kickstarter offers a unique chance to involve people in the game. Backer involvement is an important part of the campaign, and we are thrilled to share the journey from Kickstarter to the game’s release with faithful followers.
The funds raised by this Kickstarter campaign will be distributed approximately for the following:
- 20% Artwork (Illustrations, Concept Art, Ingame Assets)
- 10% Audio (Music & SFX.)
- 10% Programming, debugging.
- 30% Level design, dialogue, mechanics and general writing.
- 10% Kickstarter fees, Licensing fees.
- 20% Reward Fulfillment (Creation & Shipping)
Here's a detailed explanation of each:
Access to Backer-only Forums
Grants you access to an online forum where backers and developers can talk about the game. You will be able to share your thoughts with us, and we will do our best to listen, even though Darren might be playing loud music!
Access to Backer surveys
We want to include you, our backers, in the development of Exile Saga. We can and will do that by sending out surveys that you can participate in, and thus have an impact on the features and mechanics of the game.
Get a digital Exile Saga wallpaper for your monitor! The wallpaper will be made in high definition.
Help us decide on cool stretch-goals that YOU want to see happen. As a backer of Exile Saga, you will have the opportunity to voice your opinion in this important matter!
A digital download version of Exile Saga once it's been finished. This version will be DRM-free - this will only be available to our backers. Ever.
We're going Greenlight, and if we succeed, you could get your own, free Steam version of Exile Saga. Keep an eye out for a Greenlight announcement!
A .pdf download of the game manual. This manual will include game information, skill trees, some lore and other nifty things!
This reward is a key. And it opens the golden gates of Beta access! You will be invited to play the beta versions of Exile Saga as we develop the game! You will get the chance to find bugs and glitches, and then slap us with them so we can fix 'em! Of course, you will also have the chance to provide input on how we can make the Exile Saga even better!
A digital download of the complete game soundtrack! With this reward, you can listen to DesperateMeasurez epic tracks all you want!
A .pdf book containing character art, concept art, environments... Colourful illustrations by Michelle Yang, our amazing concept artist!
Physical copies includes the boxed version of Exile Saga, a printed manual and artbook, and a physical copy of the entire Exile Saga OST! If you bagged this reward, all this will be mailed to you upon release.
Become an NPC (Backer Lookalike)
The backer Lookalike NPC will be modeled after your image or imagination. It will appear in game at some point. Maybe as a shopkeeper or a guard?
Become an NPC! (Star in a Sidequest)
The Star in a Sidequest NPC will also be modeled after your image or imagination! This one will play a key role in one of the games sidequests! You could become the questgiver, the temporary hero/team member or even the fair maiden who needs rescuing! Use your imagination!
Become a Boss!
Design a boss and a sidequest for it with us! This baddie will be modeled after your image or imagination. Abilities, story and rewards will be up to you! Note that the content must match the setting of the game world.
Exile Saga Calendar
A limited edition, 13 month physical calendar featuring characters and scenes from Exile Saga. Keep track of appointments and dates with our heroes and villains!
Design one of the leaders of the Covenant who summoned the demons to the world, and thus sealed its fate! If you bag this reward, the NPC you design will have a big role to play in the story of Exile Saga! After all, they summoned the Emperor of Nera, right?
Design a superboss with us! This beast of an enemy will include its own story, questline, musical theme and boss fight! And it will all be your doing. Note that the superboss content must match the setting of the game world.
Risks and challenges
Creating a video game is a huge undertaking, and while we will strive to complete the game before the deadline, it is more important to us to release a polished game.
This also means that delays might happen. We hope they won't, but they might!
Other than delays, there are no real risks worth mentioning.
Rest assured... any obstacle can and will be overcome!
