HONDROS announces official release dates

Dear Kickstarter friends and supporters:

First of all, I hope all of you are having a very good start to the new year. I’m happy to kick off our first announcement of 2018 with big news -- HONDROS has been picked up for theatrical distribution before rolling out across a wide array of digital platforms in the coming weeks!

But first, a quick recap of a very busy 2017 for the film you helped bring into the world, followed at the bottom by an update on rewards fulfillment.

As you know, HONDROS premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April, where it won the Audience Award for Best Documentary, as well as a Special Jury Mention for Best New Documentary Director.

From there, the film took off, officially selected to screen at Hot Docs, Vancouver International Film Festival, Stockholm International Film Festival, Hamptons International Film Festival, Indigo Moon Film Festival in North Carolina, GlobeDocs in Boston, and the Denver Film Festival.

In addition to Tribeca, we won top honors in Denver and at Indigo Moon, as well as the prestigious Brazzolara Family Foundation Award for Films in Conflict and Resolution at the Hamptons. HONDROS has had nothing but positive reviews, including in trade publications like Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.

In other words, it’s been a pretty stellar year. And I’m happy to say that 2018 is on pace to match it.

Because of the film’s success on the festival circuit, HONDROS has been picked up for a theatrical release on March 2 in London, New York and Los Angeles. After its theatrical rollout, the film will be available on iTunes, Amazon Video, Xbox and other home entertainment platforms beginning on March 6, then it will be picked up by Netflix in the summer.

Now, let’s talk about those rewards. But first -- thanks for your enormous patience throughout this process. I realize it seems like forever since we started this Kickstarter campaign, but it was worth all the long hours, weeks and months it took to produce a film that has gotten such great attention. Obviously, the time it took to bring the film from Kickstarter project to a theatrical release also means that it takes that much time to fulfill certain rewards.

And there is a bit more waiting required, but I promise it won’t be long. DVDs and posters are still being designed and packaged, but as soon as they are available, we will send them out. I expect they will begin to rollout in early- to mid-March.

Thanks again for your patience through this process and thanks as always for your support from the beginning of this important film. Because of you, Chris Hondros’s story will soon be available to the world.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy New Year,

Update on the festival rollout of HONDROS

Dear friends and backers,

HONDROS, the film you helped to support nearly four years ago, has been getting rave reviews after its first several screenings and premieres (I attached links to glowing reviews from Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, if you haven’t seen them yet). The film had its World Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award for Documentaries and I received a special jury mention in the Best New Director competition.

I’m currently at the Hot Docs Film Festival in Toronto, where HONDROS is being screened in the Special Programming category for its International Premiere. We’re once again eligible for the Audience Award, which will be announced when the festival is over.

I wanted to provide you a note about what’s next, for the film and for you, our backers who put us on the path that led here.

Reward fulfillment: Our team is keeping tabs on reward items that are still outstanding to our backers, including DVDs/online screeners, posters and other items. These items will be shipped and/or provided as soon as they are available, which will not be until we have a distributor to bring the film off the festival circuit and into wider release. We are still at the initial stages of bringing this film into the world, so continue to standby a little bit longer -- we haven’t forgotten about you.

(Note: If you’ve moved since August of 2013, please send me a private message updating your new address so we can be sure you get everything you’re due when it’s available.)

Future Screenings/Special Showings: We’ve had many requests for special screenings at colleges, professional organizations and other institutions but again, we need to keep our public screenings limited for the sake of future distribution. We will post any information about upcoming dates, theater shows, special screenings, etc., on this page and on the film’s Facebook page when that information becomes available. Again I’ll ask for patience while our team focuses on finding the best arrangement for the film that will ensure it’s seen by as many people as possible.

Thanks again for all your support and all your messages of encouragement and goodwill.

Variety review:

A thank you, ahead of our premiere

Dear friends,

With less than a week to go before HONDROS premieres at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival, I wanted to take a quick moment to thank you all again for bringing us to this milestone. It sounds cliche to say "we couldn't have done it without you," but we couldn't have done it without you!

Our schedule has been bonkers and will likely remain so through the Hot Docs festival in early May, but I also wanted you to know that we will begin the process of fulfilling rewards for your donations just as soon as we are able.

Thank you again for the love, trust and support you've shown this project over the past four years.

Greg Campbell

HONDROS will premiere at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival!

Dear friends:

What an honor it is to be able to tell you that your long-held support and boundless patience are rewarded at last -- The film you helped launch in 2013, HONDROS, is going to premiere at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City!

It’s been a long road from the Kickstarter campaign to its opening night (which will be announced on March 15), but the one constant has been your support, which truly got us where we are today.

The official announcement can be read here, along with a synopsis of all the films in the festival. Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart, for being such a crucial part of our success from the very, very beginning.

An overdue update on our third anniversary

It’s hard to believe that it was almost exactly three years ago that we launched our Kickstarter campaign to fund the initial phases of our film about the life and legacy of our friend Chris Hondros. Despite the relative radio silence of the past several months, we’ve stayed hard at work ever since to bring his story to the world.

Since late last year, we’ve been re-cutting and refining the film to make it as good as possible. As part of that effort, we have moved post-production operations from Denver to New York and we are close to finalizing a co-production partnership with Jake Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories Productions and Bold Films (which produced one of my favorite movies of all time, WHIPLASH). We’ve already benefited tremendously from the creative aspect of that partnership, but just as critically it represents the last piece of the financial puzzle needed to bring the project to fruition.

It goes without saying that we would not have drawn such welcome attention from an established production company without your help. Three years ago, our supporters raised enough money that we were able to put our best foot forward in attracting such honorable partners who -- like everyone else who came to know him -- are moved by Chris’s life and his impact on the world. Since our last update, the team telling Chris’s story has grown in both size and caliber.

We are very close to being done. I’ve been told by those with more experience that this stage of a film’s production can be excruciating for those who’ve been in the trenches from the beginning, including those of you who made it possible in the first place -- the filming is done, the money has been raised, the editing is nearly finished, but there are still myriad steps yet to complete.

Rest assured we are eager to reward your trust and patience in this project and I can tell you with confidence that it will be worth the wait. Thanks for sticking with us on this long journey -- knowing we have your support has been critical in getting us to where we are.

More to come --
