Written by: Tony Keaton Art by: Andrew Herbst
In the summer of 1945, from the ashes of Nazi Germany, packs of guerrilla fighters - calling themselves Werewolves - terrorized their occupied homeland. These soldiers, some as young as 10 years old, were armed with rifles, explosives, and a vengeful passion. Indoctrinated in a psychopathic ideology since birth, this youth brigade often proudly chose death over surrender.
Their motto: "Hatred is our prayer, revenge is our battle cry!"
WOLVES OF SUMMER tells the harrowing tale of one such band of Werewolves, making their final stand, and of Johnny Summer, who embarks on a quest to redeem himself from the horrors of his past.
HEY -- DON’T TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT!
"This gripping tale of redemption and absolution is a must-have for anyone who appreciates good storytelling, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it on the short-list for Eisner Awards this summer at Comic-Con."
-Tony Caballero, Fanboy Comics
“You should totally read this. It was an amazing book. Really got me. Really pulled me in. If you like Darwyn Cooke, if you like Becky Cloonan, if you like certain off-beat artists that can put a lot of story and motion into their characters, this is exactly where you want to go. 5 out of 5.”
"Wolves of Summer #1 is a fantastic first issue for tale of the doomed Werewolf squadron. With its intelligent visual storytelling, and grasp of child-like naïveté, I cannot wait to see what is going to happen next."
-Sean Robinson, The Comics Herald
"Sombre and harrowing, Wolves of Summer is a class act. Andrew Herbst’s art evokes the likes of 60s underground artists and their modern counterparts such as Daniel Clowes. Herbst manages a subtle feat, in that his art style suitably depicts both the wild Hitler Youth’s initial “adventure” and Johnny’s longing for redemption; it’s when these two disparate eras begin to seamlessly intermingle that Wolves‘ storytelling is at its most powerful. I have no idea where Keaton and Herbst’s 6-part miniseries is heading, but Wolves of Summer has the potential to be something truly special. Check it out."
