Update #33 - Now Shipping!

Hi Backers,

We've completed our first production run and are now ready to ship!

Our first batch of Classic and White units passed QA and are now clearing China customs. We expect that if everything continues to go well, we can start shipping by the end of the week.

Here are a few photos from the finish line at the factory.

As a reminder from the last update, our production will be staged and we will be building and fulfilling all Kickstarter units in batches to you as quickly as possible.  Our limitations are based on production ramp, material lead times, and financing of all the materials and inventory.  Initial shipments will be received in the United States, Australia and New Zealand.

Domestic shipping in the United States will be free. International backers will need to pay the amount above the normal U.S. shipping rate. We will absorb the costs below that.

We are not able to request updated shipping addresses from you via Kickstarter, therefore we are looking at other methods for reaching out to you in large groups. We will contact you as soon as possible to reconfirm your current shipping addresses. Please note that if you've used a PO Box as your shipping address, you will likely need to update that.

For those of you requesting refunds, we assured you we will process the refund request as soon as we sell your Instacube.  Now that our ecommerce site is live and we're able to start selling, we'll process your refunds as soon as possible. This will still take some time, so your patience is appreciated and we know it's painful.

Finally, as a special thank you for your ongoing support through our long journey, we will offer all Kickstarter backers a special 25% discount on Instacubes for your friends and family and a guaranteed discount available only to you on the next two exciting models we have planned.  You will receive an individualized email with those details separately. (The ecommerce site will not recognize those codes just yet.)

Thanks to all you fabulous Backers, and enjoy the Instacube very soon!

What's the update on the shipping? Are you going to provide a tracking number and shipping company information? It seems like were kept out of the loop. Please follow up and give us a progress on the shipping.

Is there an update on shipping yet?

    3. Fletcher Massie on April 15, 2014

      Still no update about shipping...

WooHoo - this is great news! Can't wait to get mine.

    5. Beagle on April 9, 2014

Careful Jonathon! Asking such sensible questions is likely to get you assaulted on here by people who must surely aways be right and happy in their lives - some of which whom have suddenly changed their tune...

I want to know how I can get a refund. Please put up instructions. Thanks.

What a joke. They said they'd pay international shipping & now have gone back on their word. It's extra hilarious when you realize every Instacube is drop shipped from China. Evidently it costs nothing to drop ship to the US via FedEx but everywhere else it's big big money.

It's a money grab folks, they want to maximize their profits from this doomed project. Kind of like when they said they were going to spend the project money on building the cube & instead spent it all on salaries (despite that being a contravention of the Terms & Conditions).

The product is late, low-quality, obsolete & underwhelming but has cost them their company's reputation so they're trying to squeeze every drop out of us.

I already updated my address once through this process, but I have since moved again. Who would I speak with to update my mailing address? Im excited that I may actually, finally get an Instacube.

    11. Terry Weng on April 9, 2014

      遲到這麼久又要加運費?! 當初說好的是免國際運費啊!!

    12. Nicholas on April 8, 2014

Update #33: "Domestic shipping in the United States will be free. International backers will need to pay the amount above the normal U.S. shipping rate. We will absorb the costs below that."

Update #23: "International Shipping. What’s the plan for international backers?
We’ve been negotiating with Fedex and other shippers for the best rates and its difficult to set a single international price since each country has different tariffs and duties. At this time, our best estimate is that the average cost is about $40 to ship internationally. We plan to honor the commitment to cover the difference between international and domestic rates."

As much as I want to continue to be positive towards D2M, its things like this and others, apart from the massive delay, that turned people away and created a bad name for D2M.

I hope D2M can address this to all its backers.

Glad to see the last several, solid updates. Someone has definitely stepped up, and I'm excited to receive my 'cube. Kudos!

    14. Roy Brouwer on April 8, 2014

I thought international shipping was free/included because of the delay? You wrote that in a previous update.

    15. Anthony Burt on April 8, 2014

Thanks for the update and congratulation for reaching this milestone. Looking forward to receiving it.

    16. Mark on April 8, 2014

Cool! Thanks for the update. Shame some backers don't read them. All info about your refunds and change of address detail are in it. Ditto and well said, Jesse!

Oh Beagle, toss off. My point is that if you want to know precisely when you're going to get a product, go shopping on Amazon. The Instacube team are clearly not e-commerce experts, but a team of people that had a product idea. Give them some slack and do the rest of us a favor and don't support any more Kickstarter projects.

    18. Beagle on April 8, 2014

      Oh Jesse, dry up.

There is no "perceived lack of detail". If you were as knowledgable as you appear to profess, you'd know that the project is a farce from start to when it eventually comes to a finish.

STILL no honest shipping matrix, still no shipping charge detail and still no honest to God refund structure. Amazon payments (if it was that, it was so long ago I forget!) has a mechanism for refunds. They just need to get on and do it now they have made two distinct promises to do so.

I just love the entertainment factor of reading the comments every time there's an update.

For anyone that has worked in product development, you know how challenging and difficult it can be, so congrats to the Instacube team for the milestone. For anyone that's complained about how long it's taken or their perceived lack of detailed updates specifically for your shipment, go ahead and get your next product on, I'm sure you'll be much happier with the outcome. Kickstarter is for people with vision and patience.

    20. Mathieu Chevalier on April 8, 2014

      Congrats on getting there! :)

    21. Dario Cottone on April 8, 2014

And what about the shipment in Europe?? U should ship the units in order of the order time, no matter if USA or Europe..this is incredible

    22. Matt Wakeman on April 8, 2014

We need a full shipment plan - When are devices coming to the UK?

What was the thought process around picking USA, AU and NZ over UK and DE?

There is also no international shipping pricing matrix. You know where your backers are and how much difference is over shipping to USA. How are we supposed to pay this extra unknown amount?

I have no idea when I will receive my unit or how much extra I need to pay to get it to me in the UK.

so 1 batch was about 150 units? is it correct that 3,434 backers might wait another few months as the production ramp rising at the mean time? Hope we can all get it in time.

Well, hope it's worth this long of a wait.
