Hi Backers,

Instacube is now in production! Yes, we can finally say it IS happening.

Booting up on the line
Booting up on the line

For you, our Backers, we recognize this has been a long and arduous waiting period. In this, we really DO feel your pain. To bring you up-to-date we are going to take a very Instacube approach and share a very visual story. Just a few highlights in the making of Instacube are represented.

"Classic" Housing moving into curing mode

After the units are assembled and have their "Classic" stripes added, they continue through the cycle.

Plenty of testing goes into readying the product before packaging.

The final steps in the factory include packaging in our sustainably-designed, eco-friendly retail packaging.

Boxed and ready!
Boxed and ready!

You can see the manufacturing process takes many people and many hours, but we are moving along. There is still QA to complete and shipping details to finalize. To reiterate the previous update, our production runs will be staged. This means that we will be building Instacube in batches, and backers will receive them as devices become available. You can see from the photos included we're producing both Classic and White Instacubes in this run. Other styles will follow as we ramp up production. We are scaling our production to fulfill units to each and every backer as quickly as possible. When the first palette is released and shipping we will post a brief message with the date, but we anticipate this departure to remain on the current schedule. That means devices should be heading to you within the next 10 days.

We hope you'll celebrate on Instagram when the earliest devices arrive!

With that, all the best to you, Kickstarters, Instacube is coming!

Has anyone received his/her 'cube yet? I never received an address survey so I'm curious how they know where to ship?

    2. Ed N on April 7, 2014

Hi. Remember when you said, "Hi backers, we will be sending you a new survey for your updated shipping details and to confirm your order later this week. Thanks!"? That was a week ago. "Later this week" has come and gone without any contact. This feels all too familiar. Get your shit together.

Wow, the off-axis viewing quality of the screens is still laughably bad. I thought you guys "fixed" that?

    4. Hunter Boone on April 4, 2014

I was interviewed in the New York Times about you guys on how you started the tarnish
of crowd-funding and now we have other sites and services to do our crowd-funding.

So great for you for finally getting this done but we all deserve refunds and a the product in my opinion. We really do.

How do I know if my address is updated before you shipped?

Also, It's been too long since I backed this, I have no idea if it's a good address. I backed this back in 2012...it's now 2014 and 13 months past your original delivery date for March 2013.

Please respond to me publicly about this. You'll be doing a great service to the 3,434 backers on this project and the $621,049 we raised for you...

Wow. I guess I'm happy that you somehow got investors to bail you out so I'm at least getting the unit (over a year late) for my money. And whenever anyone sees it on my desk, I can give them a lecture on the importance of ethics and transparent communications in business, and in particular in crowdsourcing. D2M has pretty much destroyed its credibility and its business. Not by underestimating the project and missing deadlines - lots of projects do that. But most Kickstarters, when they understimate the project, admit their mistakes to their investors, buckle down and work through it. Instead, you guys behaved arrogantly, insultingly and unethically. For example, paying yourselves salary out of the money that should have been paying for manufacturing, while lying to us. And then by refusing to give refunds due to your failure to deliver. I can only hope that since your web site hasn't been updated since June 2012, when this project flamed out, that means that your business evaporated. Then at least the cube will have collectible value.

    7. Roy Brouwer on April 2, 2014

      Just waiting for my instacube..

    8. Matthew on April 2, 2014

Or if you are not planning on giving any refunds, Be straight with all of us so we can take the next steps. You have given a permanent black eye on the crowd funding model.

    9. Matthew on April 2, 2014

Ya no. Unfortunately no. Refund please.

    10. Greg on April 1, 2014

I've never asked for a refund from any Kickstarter project, including one that delivered more than 1 year late. This project is *quite* a different animal, for reasons that don't need rehashing. I'm happy for the folks that will be getting their Instacube. I, however, am interested in the refund option that was promised by the project creators. Kickstarter agrees that refunds are perfectly acceptable: https://www.kickstarter.com/help/faq/kickstarter+basics#faq_41860 Not thrilled that D2M replied in this comment stream about address updates and ignored, again, the promise made that refunds will be offered when units are ready to ship.

    11. Beagle on April 1, 2014

Any investor has the option to back out if it's going pear-shaped. We were promised refunds if we wanted. So far be it from us 'crying' and not understanding about kick starter, ALL we are asking for is that this promise is backed up. If you 'experts' in investment want to continue with your investment, fair enough - we're not slagging you off - so why do many of you feel the need to be so superior in your tone? THAT behaviour is not helping anyone, least of all kickstarter.

    12. HAL1800 on April 1, 2014

A kitten will die, refund please.

    13. Kimberly Farley on April 1, 2014

Congratulations! What an undertaking :) Thank you for keeping us updated and good luck on the final stretch.

      **CHANGE OF ADDRESS**

Last year we were instructed to email support@goinstacube.com with the information below. They responded same-day letting me know my shipping address had been updated. I can't say the process is the same today, but it worked for me back in June 2013.

      1. Reward Level
      2. Name
      3. Shipping Address & Country
      4. Phone number
      5. Preferred Instacube Color

    16. Jorge Palanca on April 1, 2014

That is so awesome! Question regarding country restrictions - will it ship without a pricetag? Otherwise we might have to pay high taxes abroad!

    17. Mark on April 1, 2014

Great work! Looking forward to mine. Remember, every time one of you naysayers ask for a refund, a kitten dies.

    18. Lee Thomas on April 1, 2014

Lots of address change questions, not as easy to find an answer...Cn anyone on the forum answer?

    19. Lee Thomas on April 1, 2014

How do I notify you of my new address?!

    20. Chris Sully on April 1, 2014

WooHoo! I am so excited. I have been looking forward to this for so long. Can't wait to get that package in the mail.
Good work guys. No matter what anyone else says, you have done a magnificent job.

    21. Florian Horsch on April 1, 2014

I can't believe that people are still crying for a refund. Guys - this is an investment platform. And your investment is about to work out for you at the moment.

Almost time to celebrate :) Instacube Team carry on!

    22. Mark Ngui on April 1, 2014

Yes! So I might see my instacubes in a month... Albeit I asked for one black and one white. I, Iike many others, still use Instagram and I understood what crowd funding actually meant. This was never a retail store so it was going to be a different waiting game... Hopefully I'll be able to post about how happy I am with this product soon.

Good news. Will be great to finally get the product. I have messaged to advise to my change of address

    24. Beagle on April 1, 2014

And how do we now apply for the refund? Particularly for those of us who ordered black and white. I doubt you're going to grace us with the courtesy of sending out one colour first and another later. You're just so lacking in detail in any of your posts it's unreal.

    25. Ben Shaw on April 1, 2014

Looking forward to finally getting it. Well done guys

    26. Ayman Van Bregt on April 1, 2014

What about the refund that was promised???

    27. TGA123 on April 1, 2014

      Too late. Obsolete. Refund please.

I hope it is not a bad sign that this update was posted on April 1.

    30. gryphonent on April 1, 2014

Instacube is a stark reminder how fast lived our time is. After all these trials and tribulations its a technology and service that's just not relevant anymore to the majority of users. It's like getting your DVD player when there's blu-ray and digital downloads.

    31. Mick on April 1, 2014

Seriously - I need to update my address. Please respond.

    32. André Rocha on April 1, 2014

I also want to know about my refund option, don't have any interest in this product anymore. Please respond.

    34. Jesse Stay on April 1, 2014

    35. Peter Frykman on April 1, 2014

      sounds good, keep it going.

    36. CK on April 1, 2014

Great news! But I hope is not April's fool...

    37. Evaristo Ramos on April 1, 2014

      @D2M Awesome!!
@Stephen Rosen, I don't really care I just want my technology, yes I am that heartless in a friendly to humans way.

If this really happens, this shows integrity on the part of http://d2m-inc.com/ leadership team to get this done. Lord knows it's been awhile.

    39. Stephen Rosen on April 1, 2014

Does it bother nobody else that the person doing "QA" is most definitely a child?

    40. Greg on April 1, 2014

Does this mark the point where refunds are available? Or do backers have to wait to receive *their* instacube and return it for a refund? Surely you don't want to pay shipping to backers that will be using the refund option...

    41. William Kunz on April 1, 2014

Anyone cool with help making custom ROMS/apps? There's been no UI updates so I assume it is a tad rushed.

    42. Jeremey Schofield on April 1, 2014

Now that your units are shipping, when should I expect to receive this refund you have promised? http://www.engadget.com/2013/07/03/instacube-delays/

    44. Adrian Harris on April 1, 2014

I'm another person who's address has changed (twice since backing this project) will you be sending out another survey for updated shipping info?

    45. Louis Caverly on April 1, 2014

all great things take time, and always longer than anticipated. don't listen to the haters (I am sure you have your filters). can't wait to get my unit!

    46. Adam Hendle on April 1, 2014

This has been asked a hundred times with no response, how do we update our shipping info?

    47. Wasim Khaled on March 31, 2014

heading to is via ocean freight 28 days LTL or air freight so like 13 days from today. can I watch #taxday on my instaacube for sure? finally I've moved twice since the start of this saga where do I update my address.

    48. Bear Cruz on March 31, 2014

Fuck ya! Just make sure to send a survey for those of us that changed addresses. Thanks!
