EVA Stretch goal passed
We had a feeling we might reach the EVA stretch goal so we have been composing our notes and our plans and preparing a presentation to show you how we want EVA to work. This may get a bit technical, forgive me I love technical stuff.
First of all, those who have played the Ship builder or watched the pre-alpha tech demo on youtube know that characters currently have 3 item slots:
1. Held item slot for guns, mining lasers, radio headsets etc.
2. Utility slot for an item that gives a passive bonus to the ship you are in.
3. Mystery spot that isn't used yet.
Well the 3rd slot is for your character's suit, which will provide a number of defensive bonuses and now also EVA abilities. Note that not all suits will have the same capabilities, so until you find the best powered armor in the universe you may have to choose between EVA support, body armor, or a personal shield. You can expect a wide variety of body armor and suit types to exist in the final game.
If your suit does support EVA, you will be able to enter ships through hull breaches without relying on a working airlock, that will look something like this:
EVA suits will also allow you to repair hull damage that can't be reached from inside the ship and they will protect you from dying instantly when you get sucked out of a hull breach, sending you adrift in space instead.
So that means all suits in the game will have a random allotment of the following stats:
1. Armor (%damage reduction)
2. Shield strength (number of shots absorbed completely)
3. Shield regen rate
4. Move speed modifier
5. O2 supply
6. EVA option
7. EVA mobility
