Spinal mounts and exclusive skin
We hit our first stretch goal, exciting stuff. Before I go on a big rant about spinal mounts and how they will work + why they are awesome, I have to go on a short tangent. Remember the exclusive Kickstarter skin we said we were going to make for all backers? Well it came out of the oven today:
We think a Kickstarter exclusive should be Kickstarter colored, and that means green!
For only backers who have backed us during the Kickstarter period (both via Kickstarter and Paypal) this skin will automatically unlock when you acquire the base hull that it belongs to hidden in the world of Wayward Terran Frontier: Zero Falls.
So our first stretch goal was spinal mounts because we had already discussed them and decided internally that we really wanted to make them. Honestly we probably would have tried to make them even if we didn't reach the goal.
The game engine uses a modular mounting system where mounts on the inside of the ship can be equipped with turrets on the outside of the ship. Some mounts are larger, and support larger weapons, and we have plans for some pretty big guns. However we also know that sometimes the best weapons are simply too big for turrets, taking up a decent portion of the hull just for their bulk.
We want ships that dedicate a sizable portion of their mass to one type of mega-weapon or another, and that presented us with a problem: modules are a lot of overhead to create as apposed to turrets, if we wanted to make a huge module that would only be used for a single insanely awesome weapon, we would need to justify the extra development time somehow, and that's how our first stretch goal was born.
Well now we've passed that milestone so I'm glad to announce that you can look forward to some simply unreasonable and epic space weaponry in the future. These guns will usually be so large that they will only fit in the ship hull they are designed for. Or maybe I should say these guns will be so large that ship hulls will likely have to be custom designed just for them.
