Disinformation, fake news, and rumors have always been deliberately spread to promote a specific political agenda. The game plan is always the same: disrupt the balance of power, control the narrative, win over the population. Welcome to PROPAGANDA.
The overall gameplay
PROPAGANDA is a board game for 2-4 players set in present time with 7.5 million people in a world divided into 12 Territories. It takes 1 to 3 hours to play. 1.5 billion of the population is already predefined die-hard Anarchists and act as a passive-aggressive non-player. The rest of the world’s population is divided amongst each of the different ideologies (players).
The four political ideologies for the players to choose from are Monarchism (Dictatorship), Capitalism, Communism, and Fundamentalism (Fanatic). The purpose of the game is to convert as many people as possible to your political agenda, and the winner of the game is the first ideology to establish 3 strongholds, thus the player’s ideology can flourish in the world to come.
Easy to begin. Harder to win.
The rules and game setup are easy, so it’s quick to start playing with just a few bullet points in the rulebook. However, devising a winning strategy is not so simple – you must outsmart your opponents with your calculated approach, so you can promote your own agenda while keeping your opponents at a disadvantage.
“There are several factors influencing your strategy. It is a constant struggle to decide how to make the most impact, where to make it, and whom to target.”
How is PROPAGANDA different from other board games?
The game is intended to make you ponder the different forms of government, while evaluating each player’s potential advancement, looking at cash reserve, Propaganda Cards and population size in each territory. However, the most notable differentiations are these:
- Understanding the general manipulation embedded in each ideology.
- Money plays a crucial role in the game. No money - no dice.
- You do not kill people. You convert them to your ideology.
- The balance of power can shift at any time, due to world events (Anarchy Cards).
- The passive 'player' can win the game. If ignored, Anarchism take over.
- There are no Regions off limit. You can attack anywhere in the world.
“With a great board game, you end up having conversations you would normally never have because of the built-in moral dilemmas and ideological conflicts. There is nothing like a good board game to make strife amongst friends“
Risks and challenges
The game pieces in the video are not the final ones. Each dice will have its own logo, and the pieces will be made of clear plastic in the exact right color.
There will be slight adjustments to the final product if I get 100% backing, but no major changes. It will only become more cool and conceptual. : )
