About this project
CURRENTLY FUNDING: "Trench Works" Display Board @ $320,000
100% FUNDED -- "Ruined Temple" full theme!!!
We have officially partnered with Mantic Games to offer a four tile, 2x2' Display Board option for their sci-fi skirmish game: Deadzone.
You will now have the option to select "Deadzone" as a theme for your Display Board pledge or add-on item. This set will include four of our clean "Urban Streets" foundation tiles, selected by Ronnie Renton, and redesigned to make them fully compatible with the Deadzone rule system -- while still maintaining our original urban vision.
You have the option to purchase additional Tablescapes Tiles sets, and modular walls. If you'd like to calculate your total pledge, complete with the add-on items, open our Pledge Calculator spreadsheet, save a copy, and enter the quantities you want for each item. Your total pledge will be calculated at the bottom of the page. Simple enter that amount and you'll be ready to go at the end of the campaign when the pledge manager is sent to you.
NOTE: All pledge levels include worldwide shipping - we have partnered with Mantic Games in the UK, The Combat Company in Australia, and others, to make it easy for our international customers to get their orders as easily as possible. Add-on items from our existing catalog will be shipped from our California warehouse separately from your pledge reward and additional shipping fees may apply.
Tablescapes is an injection molded plastic 12x12" tile set designed to give tabletop gamers themed gaming environments that are fully compatible with new and existing terrain and basing options from Secret Weapon Miniatures. Our initial offering, "Scrap Yard," will give you the ability to put your army on "Scrap Yard" bases, set them on a "Scrap Yard" table, and surround them with "Scrap Yard" terrain -- giving you a completely integrated, unified theme for your gaming experience.
This painted example includes Corporation models from Mantic Games on the prototype plastic tile, with resin "Scrap Yard" bases and terrain.
This is the one sample tile, repeated four times, with a sample of the modular fortifications and scatter terrain. You can easily see how, just by rotating the one tile design, you can create an interesting, and dynamic environment, while still leaving room for additional terrain, with just the one tile design.
Compression clips keep the tiles held firmly together - with edge and interior designs for maximum stability while you're gaming.
Vertical spacers will lock into the corners and allow you to stack the tiles with little or no risk to the painted surface.
We have now fully funded the "Scrap Yard" and clean "Urban Streets" tiles -- as well as unlocked a 4 tile display board option! New renders and concept art are coming in almost every day and we're well ahead of schedule.
The clean "Urban Streets" can taken as a 16 tile set with 8 unique tile designs, or combined with the damaged/ruined "Urban Streets" tiles to give you a set of 16 unique tile designs! The 16 tile clean set includes 8 unique tile designs in a mix designed to give you a workable mix of roads and foundations:
4 x Straight Road
2 x T Junction
2 x X Junction
6 x Foundation
1 x Checkpoint
1 x Lift-Gate
The damaged/ruined "Urban Streets" can taken as a 16 tile set with 8 unique tile designs, or combined with the clean "Urban Streets" tiles to give you a set of 16 unique tile designs!
This 4 tile "Rolling Fields" Display Board can be selected as a pledge reward, or an add-on item, and features two flat tiles, one rock feature, and one creek bend.
At $240,000 we will unlock a 4 tile "Ruined Temple" Display Board for both a pledge reward and an add-on.
And then, if things get really crazy and we break $400,000 in funding -- rather than promise new themes that might push this project into years of development, I will start giving backers FREE RESIN ADD-ON ITEMS. But until we break $400k we really just can't afford to do it.
Each new 16 tile theme will cost us a minimum of $80,000 in new tooling - and so that's where our stretch goals have to be. At $160,000 we unlocked the "Urban Streets" table theme, complete with new walls and scatter terrain. And this is just the beginning! The tower you see above is one of the multi-part plastic kits we've already gotten a quote on, because we are 100% committed to supporting this product line for years to come!
Secret Weapon Miniatures has manufactured tens of thousands of resin bases, pieces of terrain, and conversion bits - in addition to producing popular lines of acrylic washes and weathering pigments. We are an established company with full-time production and shipping staff located in Sacramento, California. Our products are also available, world wide, through distributors in four countries. We have experience bringing new products to market, and an existing infrastructure to bring the Tablescapes project to a successful launch.
Our founder and President, Justin "misterjustin" McCoy, has been an administrative and executive manager for more than 17 years - from Creative Services Manager to Executive Director - and has worked with several of Fortune 500 companies. In 2009 he and his wife were expecting a child (Shaemus, born 2010) and he decided that the corner office wasn't compensation enough for the long hours and stress induced ulcer and left them behind to follow his dream and found Secret Weapon Miniatures, Inc.
Risks and challenges
As with any other product produced in China there are some potential challenges when it comes to delivery:
We've done our best to minimize this as far as possible, and we are always happy to refund pledges if for some totally unforeseen reason the product can't be delivered at all.
In this case we've already absorbed the cost of the side-core mother mold, and the first proof of concept tile, and have completed the CAD files for the first full set of 16 "Scrap Yard" tiles -- and we see the risks as minimal at this point.
The biggest challenge is in the delivery time for additional themes resulting in possible stretch goals. We already have concept art for several options, however, and 3D artists standing by to help us turn those into reality.
We are also working with an established factory that has produced, and delivered, on multiple projects for the gaming industry, including several launched via Kickstarter. They are standing by and have dedicated tooling time for the project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The tiles measure 12x12" and have a base thickness of 1/4" -- with a maximum height variation from the surface of 1"
THOSE tiles are 24x24" and a bit thicker -- but with a bit of foam compatibility should not be an issue.
Sort of. The basic tile set is a 4x4' section of 16 tiles...
BUT! For the Kickstarter we have added a "Mini-Wargamer" level that includes 8 random tiles, pulled from the same theme as your pledge selection, for a total of 24 tiles -- perfect for making your 4x6' table!
When the Kickstarter closes you will be able to select from ANY of the unlocked themes for both you pledge level AND any add-on tile sets. For the "generic" themes this will include 16 tile sets of those tiles, although these will not include 16 unique tile designs.
No. We anticipate a six month production window from concept to delivery on each new theme, but much of this work will happen concurrently. For instance with the "Scrap Yard" renders nearly finished we can start on "Urban Streets" while the Kickstarter is still running. Ideally it should take no more than one year to deliver on all 4 major themes, and both minor themes, if they all get unlocked. The biggest challenge is that it can take as long as 100 hours to mill ONE of the 12x12" molds because of how detailed we've made the tiles.
The tiles will come in a two part cardboard box with individual tile spacers.
A bag will be made available as an add-on item and will be previewed in the updates.
