About this project
Help us print a 20-page preview of Heart of Millyera so that we can take our comic to conventions! This campaign is to raise money to cover the printing costs involved for a single preview issue of our comic so far, as well as promotional posters and prints of characters.

Heart of Millyera is a post-colonial, steampunk epic, set in an alternative Australia-like setting.
When young geology student Ida finds an unusual object at the bottom of a lake, she unwittingly becomes guardian to Millyera - a childlike spirit as old as the universe. With her colleges Gilbert and Celeste, Ida works to protect Millyera from those who would do the sea-spirit harm. In doing so, they awaken a long-dormant world of magic and danger.
Heart of Millyera was born out of a fascination with the mysterious universe that dwells in the deepest oceans. The world of The Colonies sprung up out of our desire to create a comic with a setting that is both steampunk, and yet proudly Australian.
Ida is determined, intelligent, and curious; traits that lead her on a quest to discover who and what Millyera truly is. What she uncovers is something far more powerful than anything she could ever hope to understand.
Millyera is naive, cautious and completely lost in the landscape of Victorian progress. She is a cosmic spirit who arrived when the planet was nothing but a barren rock. Now stripped of her power and lost in a world she does not understand, Millyera places her fate in the hands of the three young students: Ida, Gil and Celeste.
Gil is loyal and funny. He is a genius inventor, who is ahead of his time. Despite being somewhat of a Mad Scientist, he is the voice of reason, who wants to do the right thing rather than take chances.
Celeste is a rosy-cheeked, cheerful botanist. The complete opposite of the down-to-earth Ida, Celeste is overly concerned with keeping up appearances, and is often at odds with her adventurous friends.
The goal of this Kickstarter campaign is to print our comic!
We are setting out on our own adventure, to promote and sell our comic at Supanova Pop Culture Expo and other local conventions. We want to print a preview issue of our webcomic so far, to help get Heart of Millyera out there!
We won’t stop there. We have an epic story to tell, and we intend to do a full graphic novel printing. Hell, we have vision to maybe even do three graphic novels! We want to gauge and garner interest, cut our teeth on a smaller book as a practice run for the big thing.
As a thank you, we plan to offer a discount to people who kickstart this preview when the time comes to print the Graphic Novel.
We have 3 stretch goals planned, to be revealed as we hit them!
We are an artist and writer who love comics. We have both hoped and planned to pursue careers in writing, and drawing comics. Heart of Millyera is our first serious foray into publishing a comic. The story began in 2014, when Jana and Jess were discussing their mutual love for mystical sea-beasties. We love webcomics, yet we have always planned to see our work in print form!
Jana has worked in marketing, web & graphic design for 10+ years, and she has previously worked on her own webcomic. She’s worked with printers before so although this is her first book, she know’s how to prepare files for print. Jana is a veteran Kickstarter supporter, having backed over 58 kickstarter projects, mostly comics, so she knows what people expect from a Kickstarter campaign.
Jess has worked in marketing, and has studied literature, creative writing and history. She and has been reading and writing comics, and fantasy fiction since she was a teenager. She is also a Co-Founder of the Adelaide Ladies Comic Club, and has a true passion for comic books. She has already completed a script for the first saga of Heart of Millyera, and has plans for future adventures floating around in her head.
Risks and challenges
Pages 1-16 have been completed, and are already on the web! Page 17 is also done and page 18 is well on it’s way to completion.
As mentioned above, Jana has experience with printing and worked with printers so knows what to expect. We have obtained quotes and timelines for printing the comic and any rewards from experienced and reputable local printers. We have already booked our Comic Con tables, so we have a fire lit under us to get this happening!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
