Alhambra has long held a special place at Queen Games, so we were very excited by how well received the Alhambra Designers' Edition was during its campaign. Before we ran that campaign, some designers submitted multiple ideas to us for expansion modules, and we selected one from each to include.
However, while going through extensive playtesting, two modules that we had not included continued to stand out as excellent additions to Alhambra's gameplay. In addition, we have continued to receive requests asking for a late pledge option for the campaign. To accommodate both, we have decided to run a second campaign for some additional content for the Alhambra Designers' Editions.
We want to recognize that many companies would choose instead to fulfill the first campaign and then run a second one with the extra content. We have considered this, but don't think it is fair to ask people who backed the first campaign to pay shipping twice for content that we think is great and want to include. Therefore, we have decided to run this second campaign for the extra content, which will also allow those who missed the first campaign to get in on this fantastic Kickstarter Exclusive project.
The two new expansion modules are:
- Double Tiles by Dirk Henn
- Orchard by Emanuele Ornella
We also have an extra expansion from Klaus-Jürgen Wrede called Bathhouses available as a new Stretch Goal waiting to be unlocked! Once unlocked, every backer from this and the previous campaign will receive Bathhouses with their pledge.
Because of some agreements we have with designers who made modules for us, all designer modules are exclusive to this campaign in Kickstarter. Both the designer expansions and the MegaBox will not be for sale at retail. However, the new artwork for the base game and previously released expansions will be the new standard for all Alhambra products in the future.
Expansion Only Pledge Levels
There are three pledge levels for getting just the two new expansion modules. The €15 levels are for those who have already backed the first Designers' Edition campaign and just want to the two expansion modules. The pledge will be combined with your previous pledge. Make sure to select the larger tile size if you backed the MegaBox. The €20 level is for those who did not back the first campaign, and want some new expansion convent for their existing Alhambra.
Now let's take a closer look at the main pledge levels:
This pledge level is perfect both for new backers who want to dive into the world of Alhambra with a bundle of excellent expansion content, as well as seasoned Alhambra players who would like to expand their existing collection and play with the new art style.
The Megabox has everything ever designed for Alhambra all in one box with a custom designed storage solution. It is a premium product that is exclusive to Kickstarter. The tiles in the MegaBox are 40% larger than regular Alhambra tiles, for an even better visual experience (don't worry, any future expansion content for Alhambra will also be made with the larger tile size, so you won't miss out).
All stretch goals from the previous campaign are already included in this campaign, plus there is one new exciting stretch goal:
The new Expansions:
The Bathouses (Stretch Goal):
When players acquire a bathhouse from the market, they can build it in any orientation in their Alhambra. At the end of the game, players are awarded points if they build the matching buildings shown on each edge of the bathhouse in a straight line connecting to the bathhouse. The further away the building is placed from the bathhouse the more points a player gets.
The Double Tiles:
These double tiles are great for speeding up the process of building your Alhambra. But each tile is auctioned off, and many players might be interested in it. Outbid your fellow players and increase your Alhambra by two buildings in one action.
This is the biggest expansion to be added yet: Each player gets a player board at the start of the game that shows different combinations of fruits to collect during the game. Depending on where the fruits are placed and if a segment is completely filled by the end of the game, the player is awarded points.
Every time a new building is revealed at the market one fruit tile is drawn at random and placed on the building tile. A player acquiring the building will also get the fruit tile on that building. He then has to decide in which segment he want to place the fruit tile on the matching space.
A Note on Playtesting:
Dirk Henn is a very thorough playtester, and he has been playing Alhambra almost every day for months (of his own free will even) to make sure that all of the new expansion modules, including the fan made ones for stretch goals, integrate together and with all of the previous expansions modules. This is a massive undertaking, but we are convinced that all of the modules in this campaign are balanced and contribute to the base Alhambra experience, both by themselves and in combination.
Designers' Edition Features:
All new artwork
In honor of the anniversary of Alhambra, we have decided to update the game with all new artwork. While much of the artwork has been completed, it is still subject to change, but will be very close or identical to the samples shown here.
In the MegaBox, the tile size of the buildings and special tiles is increased from 4,5 cm to 5 cm, making the Alhambra even more impressive, and making the new illustrations even more prominent.
Tile Dispenser Tower
Draw each tile in style with the addition of the tile towers. All basic building and expansion tiles can be neatly stacked in the tile towers and easily drawn to be placed on the building market.
At the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains in Spain, construction on one of the most breathtaking palaces in medieval Europe begins: a project so grand, it will become a world heritage site. Compete against your opponents to make the greatest contribution to the Alhambra.
The following video shows an overview of the basic game with the original art style.

Production and Delivery
Due to the extensive new content and the added challenge of coordinating with so many different designers, we plan production for February 2019.
Once produced, we plan to ship the pledges out to the backers as soon as possible, with target that every backer receives their pledge by mid of April 2019.
All shipments will be done directly from our warehouse in Germany, most likely using DHL Express. Queen Games is not responsible for any local charges, customs, and/or lost packages due to local postal service. We will not reimburse you if that is the case. Sending a pledge a second time, if the first package did not make it due to one of the above mentioned reasons, can only be offered if the backer covers the shipping cost in full.
Please make sure that the address you are using and you note down in the survey following this campaign is up to date and written in English.
Risks and challenges
Queen Games is a company with over 25 years of experience to it's name.
We know about the Kickstarter challenges, such as coordination of production from multiple manufacturers, delays with production and shipping, challenges with shipping around the world and missing or lost packages.
Also, despite sending the rewards at the same time, backers in different regions of the world may receive their rewards sooner than others because of logistics of international shipping.
By pledging to this project, you acknowledge that the name, final look and materials of the project and hence the rewards, are subject to change and may differ from what is presented while the Kickstarter campaign was active.
If you do not accept these terms, please do not pledge on this project but instead wait for the general release.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
