Kingdom Builder is one of our award winning game, even winning the coveted "Spiel des Jahres" (game of the year) award in 2012. Four expansions and three Queenies (single module expansions) have been added since then that add even more content to the Kingdom Builder line. With all of that content out there (including a "Big Box" that includes everything), some players may be unsure where to step into the world of Kingdom Builder.
For these players we would like to introduce the Kingdom Builder Family Box. It is designed to give new players a great experience and great value by combining the base game with some of the expansion content.
With the Family Box you get:
- The base game
- The first expansion: Nomads
- Materials for a 5th player
- Two Queenies: Capitol and Caves
Since we plan to send out the pledges around the beginning of November we thought this would make a great gift for Thanksgiving (for our US backers). Because of that, we are offering a "Thanksgiving Special" and "Thanksgiving Bundle" to give even greater value.
Luxor was just nominated for the "Spiel des Jahres" (game of the year) award in 2018, making this a perfect fit for our Thanksgiving Special. Alongside the base game there are 4 Queenies, offering even more play value.
All four games are great to be enjoyed by the whole family. Countless game nights await.
Here's a closer look at the Kingdom Builder Family Box:
In Kingdom Builder all players create their own kingdoms by building settlements over nine different types of terrain. The aim is to earn gold by building and completing the conditions of the Kingdom Builder cards. The player who earns the most gold is the winner.
Every game of Kingdom Builder is different due to the highly variable set up. Kingdom builder uses a random set of kingdom builder cards and different terrain sector tiles to build the map, offering different gameplay every time you play.
In the base game, three end game conditions out of ten are used.
Players create their own kingdoms by skillfully placing their settlements on the game board map, aiming to earn the most gold at the end of the game.
Nine different terrains or features are on the board, including special locations, which yield unique benefits to the player who builds next to them. There are also castles which generate gold for players who have settlements adjacent to them at the end of the game.
On a turn, a player plays his terrain card and builds three settlements on three hexes (one per hex) of that terrain. If possible, a new settlement must be built next to one of that player’s existing settlements. When building next to a location, the player may gain an extra action tile from that location and that tile may be used during a future turn. These action tiles allow the player to take a bonus action such as moving one of the player's settlements.
Gold is earned by meeting the conditions of the three Kingdom Builder cards; these three cards specify the gold-earning conditions of the game. Examples include the Fisherman - which gives you one gold for each settlement built next to a water hex, and Citizens - which gives you one gold for every two settlements you have in your largest area.

Kingdom Builder: Nomads expansion is included in the Kingdom Builder Family Box. Nomads is the 1st expansion for Kingdom Builder, adding more content to the base game, but its not just a great addition to Kingdom builder. Nomads also contains everything needed to add a 5th player to the game.
In this expansion, Nomads now roam the kingdom, the nomads provide skills available to whomever comes to visit them. The Nomad expansion contains four new landscapes with interesting locations, allowing even more variation during set up. New Kingdom Builder cards give players new ways to earn gold during the course of the game, providing new levels of interaction.
