New Stretch Goals and Card Quality

Hope everyone had a great weekend and survived Monday. We are closing in on the first week of the campaign, so we wanted to post a quick update to clarify some things about compatibility, and look at the current stretch goals.

Poker Quality Cards
Poker Quality Cards

First, we want to be clear that everything we are printing in this campaign will use the new art and graphic design, which will be the standard for all Alhambra products going forward. After 15 years, we want to give Alhambra a fresh look. The only product on the campaign that will feature old artwork are the stretch goals for the Medina and Magical Buildings Queenies (the larger tile version included in the MegaBox will have updated art). Also, with the stretch goal for poker quality cards unlocking over the weekend, we have decided to make that the standard on all Alhambra products printed from now on. Both of these decisions were based on our commitment to make not just great games, but games with excellent components, artwork, and graphic design as well. However, we do understand that it creates some questions about compatibility, which we would like to address:

  • MegaBox: Since you are getting everything for Alhambra, and we are committing to printing some of any future expansions in the larger tile size, there are no problems.

  • Designers’ Edition Boxes: The new cards have both a different back and now are of a higher quality than in the previous editions. This box is playable with previously released expansions, but the card art, tile art, and card quality do not match.

  • Designers’ Expansions only: There are no expansions which include cards that need to be mixed into the deck, so there are no compatibility issues.

We hope to have some graphics done soon which will show off the new artwork.

Also, yesterday we unlocked the Magical Buildings Queenie stretch goal, which will now be included in all pledge levels which include stretch goals.

We are really happy with the campaign so far, both in the progress and the interaction. Continue to share the project, and lets unlock the rest of the stretch goals!

Thanks for doing the actual count. What about at least an option for extra pledge payment for those of us who are Keen to get the cards to look right? I don't want to but the expansions all over again via the mega box just for the cards...

We do have something coming for the MegaBox backers as well. I can't reveal details yet, but we have not forgotten you.

      @Queen Games.
That's great to offer SG to pledgers but it'll be great to offer SG to ALL your pledgers. Why not offer something else for MB pledger ?

@Ozzz I went through and counted. Eighty-seven is the number of cards in the expansion that have to be included in the money deck.

@ManO We thank you for your pledge, but Queen Games cares about all of her customers, not just those that spend the most money. We wanted to offer those stretch goals, as there was a lot of demand for them, to those not getting the MegaBox.

Thanks to clarify points with this update.
I'm still very happy to be sure I'm not involved in two SG (1600 & 1900) because I got one of the most expensive pledge :)

Thanks for the response. Appreciate there are quite a few cards from the expansions, but surely those that get to be mixed into the main deck are limited in number? I'm not a big fan of having to get special card sleeves just to be able to play properly with one or two modules.

@Dylan Phillips That is certainly something we can look into, yes. I have not played the Dice Game myself in a while, and forgot it was only that one tile.

I appreciate the response but I have a counter. There is only one additional tile in the Dice Game, a value 13 Tower tile. Could that one tile be printed in new art style and larger size as a stretch goal for compatibility with players who already own the Dice Game (or who are pledging for the Special Edition box which includes the Dice Game now)? One more tile shouldn't be too big a deal...

@Ozzz I did not respond at that time because we were getting ready to post an update, but it got delayed. To print all the previous cards from the expansions would be over 85 cards. Unfortunately, we can't just throw that into the Designer's level. We are being clear here that you can play with old expansions, but there compatibility issues at that pledge level. How playable it is depends on which of the 24 expansion modules you are talking about (some have no problems at all).

@Dylan Phillips Unfortunately, there is not enough demand for a larger version of Alhambra: The Dice Game.

Hi, I've pledged for the gold level and understand from the update that re compatibility, "This box is playable with previously released expansions, but the card art, tile art, and card quality do not match." How is that payable if the cards like the diamond from the expansions are supposed to be mixed into the main deck in a random fashion? The other day I've commented that since you guys are printing every card in the new back for the megabox backers anyway, why not just throw the same packs for everyone so we can all forget the compatibility issues. But my comment was not responded to.

What about the issue of compatibility between the base game as presented in the Mega Box with bigger tiles and combining it with Alhambra: The Dice Game?
