About this project

Obedience is divine! Or, is it? One android, branded “Bad Unit” by his masters, doesn’t think so. Bad Unit explains in his computer log the reasons for his dire fight in hopes that others may follow when he falls.

The story takes place in the future, aboard a space freighter bound to the planet / moon Soumad. The mission of the freighter, and its android crew, is to destroy Soumad and claim its natural resources. The destruction of Soumad would be catastrophic to its parent planet, Rhea and its sentient inhabitants.

Superior Mind creates and commands the androids. Few have ever seen him in person, they only hear his message, “Obedience is divine!”

The androids created by Superior Mind do not operate like computers. They are thinking beings. They are not just programmed, they are educated. During this education, Bad Unit learned of Prometheus, a benevolent being from ancient times. Bad Unit never forgot how he strived to bring succor to mankind despite any consequences. Visions of Prometheus colored his dreams . . .

Risks and challenges

My co-creator, Sumit Roy, and I have done much research on the subject of creating this comic, getting funding for it, publishing it, and distributing it.
There are many avenues for creating comics these days. The one we have chosen is to run a campaign on Kickstarter for the funding the publishing of the comic, and then address the distribution of it.
Our first avenue will be to distribute it ourselves. The copies we can make from the Kickstarter Campaign will allow us to do this.
The second avenue is to get the attention of publishers with our completed, printed books, and see if they would be interested in taking on the project themselves. Sumit has his own art studio, and has made many friends and associates in art and related fields. He has aquaintance with advertisers, publishers, printers, etc. We can present the comic, in its final form, to these businessmen and see if they would like to help or even take on the publishing of it themselves.
There are also companies like Darkhorse, Avatar and Top Shelf who deal with writer / artist owned projects exclusively. They have different guidelines for viewing works that they will potentially take on. But, long story short, they want to see that you can put together an interesting, sell-able comic on your own before they want to hear from you. A successful Kickstarter campaign would serve us well in this regard!
The last challenge will be to make our comic stand out in the crowd. Regarless of whether we are publishing them ourselves, or we have a publisher doing it for us, we have to make a big splash so that we are noticed. The plan for this includes getting booths at comic convetions, using social media, and utilizing websites that promote web comics. We prefer the printed page enormously to digital comics, but it is a successful activity and allows us even play with the big guys. A consumer can see our comic right along next to the heavy hitters in this media.
We have every intention of speaking long, loud and exictedly to give this project the success it deserves!
