COBRA JUICY, THE ALBUM... THE MASK
Hey, there's finally a new BMSR album, and it's wearable! You might have even heard some clips in the making on twitter over the last year and a half. Instead of telling you everything about the way it sounds, I always like to let the music speak for itself and let you decide, but I've been sitting on this album for months and it's ready to pop. The concept of this record is pretty different from the past BMSR albums, the ideas are a little more demon-skater, and I promise that's a good thing. Eric Wareheim's dad heard it and the motherfucker blazed. It's not even drug music, I swear. We wanna tour for this album a lot, and we're setting up fall 2012 and spring 2013 dates now.
I make my records for at home for free, so luckily there aren't any recording costs. The goal is to be able to make all this stuff and self-release the right way on our own label. We still think you can make a better connection with physical media than with mp3's - it's just gotta be done right. Like maybe even a mask, or something...
Rather than trying to fully fund every aspect of this release, we wanna treat this like a pre-order (domestic shipping already included in the price), so you get what you pay for. Obviously, the high tiers are for the more adventurous, but they'll be as fun as we can get them (legally!) - I've been waiting for a real reason to get to play a rollerskating rink, and that's part of what this record is about.
The cover art is still mine, but we were able to get the awesome Dan Park to do a painting for the record that can hopefully be revealed soon.
Being without a label now and self-releasing AND still trying to do cool shit can be intimidating, but having a chance to go through Kickstarter can totally flip that on its head. It's funny because even with how far we've been able to come, there are still a lot of people in the music world who tell me my vision is wrong, and the way I do things shouldn't work. I love this because it takes all the power out of their hands and puts it into yours.
SOME OF THE THINGS WE'RE DOING
We've done scratch-n-sniff vinyl and hairy cds, but I've always wanted to have an album you can wear. So here we are. It's a full-head, latex mask of the orange head from the album cover. We jam a tooth (usb stick) pre-loaded with the music, into its gums, and you can wear it for the next couple hundred years until it deteriorates. These are being produced locally in Pittsburgh by Specter Studios. And if you want it weirder, we're gonna have a handful painted by us!
Lenticular vinyl art has also been on my to-do list. So for Kickstarter backers only, we're gonna make a special version of the vinyl with a 3D lenticular cover. You can read more about it in the tiers to the right.
For those who like to keep it digital, I want to do something worthwhile, so for $8, you can still experience the whole thing through the singles, remixes, outtakes, and videos, up to the album itself.
Besides the band-painted masks, some of these tiers come with polaroids, and/or sketches. If you've been following @maniacmeat on twitter, you might have seen some of my nasty drawings. If you get a package that comes with a custom drawn vinyl sleeve, you should send me your pic (or anything really) and I'll sketch you to be even more beautiful. From there, you'll wanna use that as your social media avatar, and I'd assume your license and passport pic as well. From there, the stars are the limit!
MAYBE MAYBE MORE
Even though our goal is set at $45k (what it's gonna cost us to make all this stuff) , we wanna be able to do more, so will be adding extra rewards to the already existing tiers if we're able to surpass that goal. The first thing we're gonna do if we can hit $60k, is press the "Psychic Love Damage" EP to vinyl and include that in all the tiers starting with the $125 NUCLEAR MELTDOWN WRECKER MASK tier and all tiers higher. And more stickers and personalized things for the lower tiers! Tell us what you want for extra incentives as we go along and we'll go with whatever works!!
Ask us any tier questions on twitter or facebook! And if there's anything you want that's missing from a tier but available in another tier, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll figure out how to get it to you.
Let's get gross
