Apple products are great, we know and admit it, but there are some limitations: low graphics capability and insufficient number of connectivity ports. Rendering complex graphics, gaming or converting videos on a laptop can be painfully slow, causes significant heating and sometimes even impossible. There are laptops with better graphics, but the costs climb too high. There will always be a trade-off between the mobility of your device and graphics power.
Today in the market you can find a docking station and external graphics solutions as separate products for Apple laptops. There is no combination of both into one integrated product. Several products on your desk reduce the working space, involving messy wiring and tend to cost more.
So we have developed the iBow: a powerful docking station with external graphics.
The design of iBow docking allows you to replace graphics cards easily according to your requirements to enhance the graphics experience. iBow was developed to accommodate the largest video cards currently available in the market.

We are young, energetic entrepreneurs and truly believe in our products. Apple has some limitations in graphics power on the mobile laptops platforms. Current solutions of external graphics, in the market, lack the design and usability. We put a lot of effort to create something different, that will look as continuity of Apple laptops. Extremely easy in usability, just “plug and play”.
We would like to bring to your desk something that is: “Not just another box”. We made a research on available docking stations and what we found was that there is no docking that can be used in vertical, horizontal and adjustable angle positions in one product. That’s why we put this requirement in high priority, now you can choose, what orientation and how much space it will save on your desk.
There is always a need for accessible USB ports for charging or fast data transferring, that why we decided to put on the front panel 3xUSB, card reader and audio jack.
Additional requirement is replace and/or install various graphics cards easily. We have been working hard on our own software to make it simple to install, there is a first version that is ready and we are continuously working to improve the usability of our software.
We made our product as one as we always wanted to buy for ourselves.
Semion is an experienced engineer in the field of fluid thermodynamics. Dealing with complex flow simulations on everyday basis with his laptop convinced him that appropriate solution needed to boost graphics performance. Semion shared his idea with Igor, research engineer in the area of renewable energy sources, experienced CAD designer and a keen gamer. Both agreed that enhancing the graphics power of a mobile device is highly beneficial. But why stop only there? The idea of the versatile docking station, all-in-one product arose.
Risks and challenges
We set the bar really high with our product and those demanding requirements involve several risks. Design of the iBow was a great challenge; numerous parts, movement around axis, sliding connectors, several orientation, wiring and aesthetics. Some risks in this design were the ability to align the parts together, assure smooth movement, interference and heat flow analysis. Thanks to our experience in GD&T, CAD programming, simulation and interactions with several prototypes we could overcome those challenges. Additional risk aspects were in the manufacturing area: back and forward with different suppliers and manufacturers, updating and modifying the parts, parts optimizations for different production processes, all of this have an impact on the time from the idea to fully functional prototype and mass production units.
We involve OEM electronics in our product and this is a big challenge. The certifications of power components and speed signals were among our biggest concerns. To minimize those risks we have chosen to collaborate with one of the local leaders in electronics, a well reputed company, to develop boards for our requirement and specifications.
