About this project
It has come to TENENTNET's attention that despite some five decades of influence over the development of popular subversion, the collected works of Ted Milton have never been published on paper.
With Ted’s blessing and your help, we intend to mend this unsightly hole in the cultural firmament.
The Milton Text Book is an edition of 500 Risograph-printed, section-sewn, stitch-spined books, 135x180mm, individually numbered, containing 120 pages of complete texts chosen by Ted from over 30 years of Blurt and other projects. The books will be illustrated with fragments of notation, with an index of recorded sources.
Each cover will be hand-printed by Ted Milton with wood block letters. A former bookbinding student at London's Central School of Arts & Crafts in the 60's, Milton's art book-objects have been collected by The British Library & La Bibliotheque Francaise.
If you don't already know who Ted Milton is then this will probably be of no interest to you! But if you're not sure then you can explore here:
To own the book, plus bonuses, pledge £15 or more. Or if you'd like to help bring these artifacts into existence but don't actually need them physically in your life, a £10 pledge gets you two scanned pages from the book delivered electronically, plus the hand-written Reading List specially commissioned by TENENTNET - Ted Milton's top ten suggestions for mind expansion through music, literature and cinema.
Pledges over £20 will also receive a limited edition CD of Odes - the highlights of Ted's varied musical output beyond BLURT, and pledges over £25 will also get their name on the guest list to the book’s Launch Party to be held in London in the first week of August, during which Ted will read from the freshly inked pages of The Milton Text Book, as well as performing some Odes material.
Risks and challenges
It's important to Ted that The Milton Text Book be of a certain tactile standard, and that the pages open yieldingly and lie flat for extended contemplation of their poetic payload. This precludes us from the latest methods in cheap overseas mass-production, as those guys invariably bind their books with glue, resulting in stiff, awkward little books which would rather be closed than open: fine for a quick bit of fiction but totally unsuitable for poetry.
To achieve the necessary standards, the books will be printed under Ted's supervision by Victory Press, a boutique publisher and printer in South London.
Having already confirmed the feasibility and costs of the edition with Victory Press, the main Risk/Challenge to the project is Victory Press' situation in Deptford, a borough susceptible to more violent crime, fire and bad people than your average urban neighborhood. However, the publisher's professional insurance is such that a bit of lawlessness needn't prevent these books from being published.
GBP £2700 is the total cost of bringing these volumes into the world, without any profit for Ted Milton or TENENTNET or anyone else. Should we achieve this sum plus some change, the surplus will go directly to Ted to facilitate more hours and weeks in his studio, in the hope that he might write a few more verses for us in the years to come.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
