How much is a premium quality speaker then?
How do i buy?
The story behind the speaker design
Why one more Bluetooth speaker?
There are a huge number of Bluetooth speakers on the market already - why one more? We wanted to create a speaker that reflected both our own, our friends and million of other people's way of life: busy lives with a desire to surround yourself with quality, beauty and clever technology. The three of us have bought and tested many different mobile speaker products and we all agree that they either have inferior sound quality, lack volume or has poor battery life.
What makes db60 different?
The speaker is wall mounted and mains powered - no more running out of battery. It offers a neat resting place for your phone/device while playing - protected from children's reach. It can re-charge your phone/device - so no more running out of battery there either. NO BUTTON design - Auto standby / auto wake - everything is controlled from your device. We designed the speaker with a beautiful minimalistic touch - which we believe fits nicely with many different decors.
Superior sound quality
db60 is powered by a shielded 4" Coaxial driver, developed by experts specially for the db60 cabinet. A Coaxial driver is actually two drivers in one. The high frequencies is played by the tweeter in the middle and the mid-tones and bass by the diaphragm That coupled with an optimized vented cabinet makes the db60 out-perform most other Bluetooth speakers by lengths. With 20 Watt RMS and 40Watt peak you can easily fill a 30m2 (320sq. ft.) livingroom with sound. APT-X best-in-class audio decompression is off course built in.
Bluetooth - Controls in your hand - stay on the couch!
db60 wirelessly supports iPhone, iPad, Android or any other smartphone, tablet or computer via the latest Bluetooth technology. Easy pairing, no codes, no buttons. Don’t have a Bluetooth device? Not a problem: to make db60 100% compatible it has a 3.5mm AUX-in connector that allows you to play from devices without Bluetooth functionality.
We started the design development by setting up some restraints: Great full range sound, simple aesthetic design, hidden tech and superior user experience. We wanted to create a speaker that is as much a great music player as it is a piece of interior design. We are actually really happy about the result and think we have succeeded in combining these overall restraints in a visually elegant enclosure.
Exclusive Edition - The Wooden Wing
Exclusive edition - Types of wood you can choose from
We 'll send out a survey if the project is funded, where you can choose what type of wood you prefer and also which AC plug type.
Does it play?
Yup it does indeed. This is merely a short demo to show you the BT functionality. Because unfortunately you cannot get the full "music picture" from playing this video over the internet - there is both the quality of the video recording, compression, and finally the speakers you hear the video on, to distort the sound of the db60 speaker. But trust us, it sounds great :)
We love tech - not the old 50-buttons, 200-page-manual kind. But easy-to-use, no-hazzle products. That's why db60 has NO BUTTONS, NO SETUP - it truly is just Plug n' Play. While playing your favorite music, you can charge your device and rest it on the speaker wing. It's little details like this, that makes db60 an extraordinary piece of tech.
Where to mount it?
Well, with 20 Watts constant output, the db60 can easily fill a 30m2 room (320sq. ft.). The office, kitchen, bathroom, living room, dorm or perhaps teenage stronghold!?
Why it sound better then the competitors
In simple terms, a speaker moves air in order to produce sound. The cone of the speaker unit vibrates, setting the air in motion, transmitting the sound waves to your ear. In order to move sufficiently freely - and generate the best possible sound - the speaker needs to move the air in front AND behind the speaker unit. If the air behind the speaker unit - that's the air inside the cabinet - isn't allowed to move at all, the sound quality suffers. That's why we have a cabinet volume of 2.5 liters and have included a vented port - it provides better sound across the entire frequency range: Precise highs, open mid-tones and deep bass.
Up until now! - the idea, the will to do it, and the development process
We've been working on design, developing and refining the db60 speaker for a little over 8 months now. The final design is the 5th iteration. We want to deliver the best sound and user experience we can, these are the fundamentals of our idea and vision for the db60 speaker.
The design and development of the db60 speaker is at a stage where we have a music-playing prototype. The development is divided into three parallel tracks, ID (design, functions, user experience), ME (mechanical engineering, acoustic engineering), AE (acoustic and electrical engineering)
ID is at 100% We are happy with the aesthetics and the look and feel of the prototype. We have tried mounting the speaker which works like a charm, and is done very easy. Below is a short animation (from the mounting guide we are preparing) of the few and simple mounting steps.
ME is at 85% The prototype is functioning very well. We have completed stress tests and FE analyses on the mounting bracket and wing. The cabinet have gone through several iterations with focus on manufacture-ability and adjustments of the internal fixation. Florent Gatin has worked on fine tuning the vented port design, mesh opening area and the cabinet volume to ensure optimal acoustics. The last 15% is optimization carried out by the manufacturer preparing the cabinet for the first production run. The speaker mesh in front of the unit will be deep drawn into shape, that needs a bit of testing also - to ensure if folds perfect.
AE is at 90% the engineering part is completed. Florent Gatin has optimized and trimmed the speaker output, port and metal mesh to deliver the best full range sound both in the high and low frequencies. What's left now is mass production optimization and potential minor changes on the two circuit boards.
Check out below to some images of the process.

To ensure the best possible product quality and timeline precision we are using only top manufacturers. The manufacturers we have commissioned for the db60 project, we have worked with before in our daily jobs as industrial designers. Plastics, assembly, testing and packaging will be carried out be one of the top 3 manufacturers in China/Hong Kong. The internal electronics and driver is developed and supplied by a Hong Kong based manufacturer with more than 20 years experience in the business. The wooden wing will be milled out by a local Danish cabinetmaker on a 5-axis milling machine. Finally, your very own db60 speaker will be delivered to your doorstep by Amazons fulfillment service.
Thank you for taking your time reading about our speaker project, we hope you like what you saw, and will support us in making this project become reality.
Risks and challenges
The speaker has gone through five iterations and tree prototype stages in the development up until now. The results are great, the speaker looks beautiful, the mechanical design is in place, and the acoustic performance is impressive. In mass production there are still details to be sorted out, like color matching, alignment, assembly etc. but these are normal details in a production run, and thats why trial runs are done until everything just right.
We have already setup the manufacturers for the speaker enclosure, the speaker unit and PCBs and the wooden wing, which will be milled out from a single piece of solid wood on a 5-axis milling machine. We have chosen to work only with the best manufacturers, and they are all ready to start production.
We will update you regularly on the process and progress.
