Giallo is thriller all'italiana, with elements of horror, murder mystery, exploitation and much more. They are known for their black-gloved killers, ingenious murder set pieces, humor, sexploitation and violence all delivered with verve and style that is uniquely Italian.
We are showcasing ten films culled from the heydays of the genre, 60's and 70's, but make no mistake as this is a genre that continues to thrive today as is evident in its far reaching influences over a generation of filmmakers.
For more info on the films check out:
Who Are We?
We are two New York-based filmmakers, Alessio Giorgetti and Yunsun Chae, and Alessio Grana, a psychologist in Italy.
As avid fans of Giallo movies, we felt that a theatrical showcase solely dedicated to this important genre was grossly overdue in a city like New York.
This will provide a unique opportunity for New Yorkers to experience these films in their original 35mm format.
What We Need & What You Get
We spent the last six months finding a venue, researching, tracking down rights and locating these rare 35mm film prints. It hasn't been easy, and we have come this far on our naive enthusiasm as fans. But organizing an event like this is a costly endeavor, and that's why we are asking for your help. So far, we have done what we could with our own piggy banks, but here's the breakdown of major costs that still need to be covered.
--35mm Print Rental & Maintenance Fees
--Insurance, Shipping and Special Handling of these very fragile films (35mm prints are HEAVY! And half of our films are coming from Italy).
--Clearance of Rights (We thank those distributors that have generously granted us the rights).
--Bringing special guests to take the showcase to a whole new level.
--Expenses related to promoting the event, e.g. ads., posters, flyers, etc.
--Expenses related to creating & softing(running live subtitles) during 7 screenings of our Italian prints.
We know that times are hard, and that most of the contributions come from the heart. In exchange of your generosity we want to show a token of our appreciation in the form of Special Thanks on our website and on the screen before each film as well as tickets and Giallo memorabilia.
If you can't attend our showcase because you live far away from the Big Apple you can still enjoy the perks and know that a succesful showcase will help us reprise the showcase in other cities. And who knows if we reach beyond our goal we could even do Giallo Fever 2. There are just so many movies we want to show!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION AND SEE YOU AT GIALLO FEVER!!
When we started working on this series we had no idea how long it would be or how many films we would include. It was only right before the publication of the Anthology Film Archives' program that these key details emerged. We would show 10 films over a period of 10 days. All on 35mm with the exception of one 16mm. We initially budgeted ourselves to do a long weekend with just 4-5 films, believing that with a moderate return at the box office (we get just a percentage since we don't own the venue) we would recoup our expenses. However, as more interest grew around the event we kept coming up with films that we felt were indispensable to the showcase, and having a special guest or two became a distinct possibility. Without any corporate sponsorship, an event of this nature and length depends on robust ticket sales AND generous financial support from private donors. We have dug into our own pockets to come this far, but our pockets aren't that deep. We know that it would have been more financially responsible to start with just a few movies, or wait to raise the necessary funding to do this. But thankfully for you fans out there our enthusiasm trumped our common sense, and we just went for it, our only business model being our love of these movies. And if for some crazy stroke of luck we go over our funding goal, you can be sure that every penny will go straight into doing a follow up to this.
