(Just as any quilt pattern can be made in several versions, so can the descriptions for this project! Read on to find the one that fits you just right...)

WHAT I'M DOING - The Short Bio Version
Hi! I'm Sam Hunter, the Gal Behind the Green Curtain at Hunter's Design Studio. HDS is a new pattern design company specializing in patterns for quilts and other stitched goodies for contemporary and modern quilt addicts, er... enthusiasts!
WHAT I'M DOING - Short Version
Thus far I’ve designed and created six new quilting patterns for the modern and contemporary fans, as well as designs for the Sew Sassy accessories like totes and buttons. This Kickstarter campaign is about creating at least six more new patterns and their samples, getting them printed, and taking them to the Long Beach Quilt Festival in July 2012. The Festival is run by Quilts Inc., the folks behind the major Quilt Market events in the US. Why this event? It is one of the best places to attract the attention of national distributors.
WHAT I'M DOING - Philosophical Version
My philosophy here at HDS is to create fun patterns for contemporary and modern quilt enthusiasts. I aim to create patterns that help beginners and up-and-coming quilt addicts make something that is pleasantly complex to look at, but pleasantly easy to create. My easy-level patterns help build construction skills and color confidence so that our newest enthusiasts have something to grow on. I also have patterns of greater complexity for the seasoned sewists - all levels are welcome here! My next pattern, currently in its final testing phase is full alphabet (complete with numbers, both cases and punctuation) that will be distributed on CD!
WHAT I'M DOING - Academic Version
I love to teach - it's the best part of any day. I especially like teaching our newest quilting converts because it gives me a chance to share what I like so much about art made from fabric. The best way I can describe it is that I get to open a wonderful box of goodies with each student and share in the surprise and joy of playing with everything inside it. Look at this! It's it cool!?! Wanna know how to make one of these? I believe in teaching foundation skills, the building blocks of any discipline, but then showing how few rules need to be followed once basic construction skills are mastered (the back of a quilt does not have to be made from fabric that matches the front - really, it doesn't!) Several of my patterns guide the makers through some improvisational choices that allow them to really personalize their quilt, but within a structure that encourages success.
WHAT I'M DOING - Technical Version
I think up the designs. I dig out my fabric. I make, make, make it until I get it right. I write it into a pattern. I work out how to make it with the least amount of wasted fabric (although I allow for a cutting oops or two just in case). I draw lots of pictures to match the words, because some of us learn through words, and some of us learn through pictures. I send the pattern draft off to a bunch of smart people who read it, try it, and tell me how to make it better. I fix the pattern and make it again. I photograph the quilts. I turn the photo into a pattern cover. I visit my printer (and take him homemade shortbread). I stuff the patterns into shiny plastic sleeves. I turn them into downloadable PDFs. I get them into the hands of people who like to quilt.
WHAT I'M DOING - Financial Version
Your pledges are funding everything I need to get to the Long Beach Quilt Festival, primarily the raw materials to make quantities of each HDS pattern and Sew Sassy goodies to sell - I currently have 6 patterns ready for print and at least six more in process, one of which will be printed on CD. Just so you know, Kickstarter is an all or nothing game - either I raise it all and it's funded, or I miss and I get nothing. So all would be pretty sweet. If I raise more than my goal, I will be able to pass on the goodness by paying some of the lovely volunteers who are helping out!
WHAT I'M DOING - Rewards Version
In a Kickstarter campaign, we offer you rewards in exchange for your pledges - a friendly way to makes sure everyone gets something! And so I have a bunch of great stuff for you, ALL of it made by yours truly! There are patterns, Sew Sassy Buttons, hand-dyed fabrics, tote bags, workshops, lectures and quilts. Yes, QUILTS. Go here to see pictures and descriptions of the fabric goodies that are available as rewards.
WHAT I'M DOING - Last Words Version
If you made it this far... thank you! I'm excited about stepping up to a national level with my designs, and thrilled to be backed and supported by so many wonderful folks. I appreciate the chance to show off my stuff, and can assure you that I will be passing on your good karma for a long time! THANK YOU!
