The Marauder Market is a documentary about the men cast aside by the immigration laws of Italy. As a means for survival, make shift markets are assembled as quickly as they disappear in the presence of the unforgiving Polizei. This is a glimpse into the building tension between the Moroccan immigrants and the city's law enforcement that leads to confrontation.
In its simplest form, this is an invitation to meet a secretive community of men fighting to make enough money to eat and to send home, to understand their struggle and to rethink racism.
The constant threat of detainment is eminent and the tension is always present. I want to expose prejudice and the policy that enforces it.
Reaching this goal allows me complete Phase One of this project which includes:
- filming interviews, supporting footage and additional b-roll
- travel budget to Genova, Italy to capture footage
- titling and credits
IF we exceed our goal of $3,000 through your generous support, additional funding will be used for the following:
- color correction
- sound design
- public relations an marketing plans
- pursuing film festival distribution
- increasing the production value of the film's score and soundtrack
I want to thank you for taking interest in this project and I look forward to completing this project together.
Risks and challenges
To film the footage for the 8 minute version I was able to pull some favors from the Genova Film Commission, The Ministry of Culture, and local businesses. After obtaining funding I will be able to travel to Genova and film more interviews with immigrants from the market.
At this time my only concern would encountering conflict in filming the Polizei. However, I am in contact with local officials to resolve this issue.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
