We made our goal of 20k on Friday and there are a lot of warm and fuzzy feelings over here at IPRC headquarters! Thank you ALL SO MUCH for helping us get there.

We have a little less than 2 weeks left in the campaign and are now hoping to STRETCH that goal!

Space update: We have made a proposal on a space just off Burnside and 8th and are currently in negotiations for that space. Nothing has been finalized, but we do have a better idea of some potential costs associated with this new space.

Things we could do with a stretch goal of an additional 10k:

  • Build two new classrooms.
  • Make ADA adjustments to a new space.
  •  Add an artist-in-residence studio.
  • Update the computers in our lab.
  • Construct a new screen-printing booth that is sound-proof!
  • Expand our library program
  • Offer more scholarships for memberships and workshops.

So, please help us stretch another 10k in the next two weeks by sharing our campaign and letting your community know why the IPRC is valuable to you.

Warmly,

A.M. O'Malley, Executive Director

For nearly twenty years, local artists and other creative Portlanders have used the non-profit Independent Publishing Resource Center to facilitate all manner of art practices.

At the IPRC we value creativity in every discipline. We offer the local community creative resources; guidance on projects; silkscreen and letterpress printing equipment, desktop publishing tools, and a space for creatives to experiment. The IPRC supports emerging young artists and lifelong community members working on all kinds of projects. The IPRC also provides outreach programming in media literacy and the arts for local schools, community groups, and correctional institutions. The IPRC has become an emblem of Portland’s creative, DIY culture and we hope to stay that way for many years to come.

As you may already know, Portland is currently experiencing a surge in growth and development and the growing pains that go along with them. Unfortunately, the IPRC is not immune to the effects of this transformation. Recently we were informed that the rent for our space in southeast Portland will soon increase by a steep 300%. This increase in rent has forced us to find a new home.

We have begun the search for a new space and already have some promising new prospects for re-homing the IPRC. Unfortunately, relocating will cost a significant amount of money, and we’re going to need to raise some capital in order to keep doing what we do as we work through this transition.

We will need all the help we can get from our community members, and you can help the IPRC fulfill its mission by supporting our campaign. With an investment of 25, 50 or 100 dollars you can help us afford the transition to a new home. Please help us with what you can.

The IPRC offers space and services that aren’t available to local artists anywhere else. Letterpress machines, screenprinters, Xerox machines, art materials, events, classes, computer resources, and a place to connect with other artists are only a few of the resources that we provide to this community. Please give today to help us secure the IPRC’s future in Portland.

Risks and challenges

We are still in the process of finding our new home in a crowded real estate market. We have a small staff and many thousands of pounds of letterpress type to move.
