Sabacc, The Card Game
The game of Sabacc is now in a galaxy near you! This one of a kind card game is right for everyone, Star Wars fan or not.
Galactic Sabacc has 76 cards in the deck: 60 numbered cards (1-15) divided into four suits, two copies of eight special cards.
Each player is dealt 2 or 5 cards, depending on table rules, to make up the hand.
There are four phases for each hand: Betting, Shifting, Calling and Drawing. The hand ends when someone calls on the 4th cycle or after. A cycle is made when the Drawing is complete and the next round of Betting starts.
Hand Pot: The Hand pot is where all bets on the hand go. The entire hand pot goes to the winner of the hand.
Sabacc Pot: The Sabacc pot is payed into every hand and is a flat buy in. The agreed amount is payed into the pot every hand in addition to the Hand pot but only payed once a hand. If a player can not pay the Sabacc pot they lose the game.
Players can choose to fold the hand at any point and they forfeit the Hand pot and Sabacc Pot. Players can also choose to fold out of the game and keep whatever credit/money/game currency they have and leave the game.
The Betting phase starts with the player to the left of the Dealer. The player, if he wants to play the hand, places his bet into the Hand Pot and an anti into the Sabacc Pot if not the player folds but still pays the Sabacc pot. The Sabacc Pot has a set bet each hand, the Hand Pot has a minimum bet to play the hand but no maximum (depending on table rules). Each player, after the first bet is made, can choose to raise, match or fold during the betting phase.
The Shifting phase is a complicated, aggravating, sometimes helpful, and the most unique part of the game. The Shifting phase is where the cards change. There are two times when the cards change: 1) Randomly throughout the game the dealer calls for the shift of cards. This can be at a pre-set time interval before the start of the game or at a random time interval (recommended using a random number generator [not included] or dice of any size to determine when to shift [also not included]). 2) After the Drawing phase everyone gets the option to shift their cards and replace the hand with new cards depending on the table rules. Every shift the players put their cards into the deck and the deck is shuffled and then re-dealt. You can protect your cards from being Shifted by placing the card, face down, into the "interface field" or safe zone in front of you. You can add cards to the Interface field at any phase but once a card is added into the Interface field it can not be removed until the end of the hand.
The Calling phase starts on the forth cycle or any cycle after. When a player calls the hand is over and all players show their card starting from the player to the left of the dealer and moving clockwise (note that a shift can happen to any of the players who haven't laid down their cards but once your cards are down they wont shift).
The Drawing phase happens after the Shifting phase (or Calling phase if 4 cycles have been played). Starting from the player to the left of the dealer and moving clockwise the player is dealt a card face down. The players now has the option to pick up the card and can chose to discard a card from his/her hand (the pick up card or one already in the hand), There can be a minimum of 2 cards and no maximum cards in a player hand. After everyone draws the Betting phase starts.
End of hand:
The hand ends when a player (after the pot-building phase) declares they would like to Call the hand. One last round of betting occurs, starting with the Calling player, and then players reveal their cards. Winning hands in Sabacc are hands that total 23 or -23, which are called Pure Sabacc, or a hand made up of an Idiot (value 0) a 2 of any suit and a 3 of the same suit (this is a literal 023) called an Idiot’s Array. An Idiot’s Array beats a Pure Sabacc. If no one has any of these winning hands, the player with the highest hand total below 23 wins. Any player with a hand totaling more than 23, less than -23, or exactly 0 at the time the hand is called has Bombed Out and automatically looses the hand. The winning player takes the contents of the Main Pot. If that player won with a Pure Sabacc or an Idiot’s Array, the Sabacc Pot is also collected. The Sabacc Pot can only be collected with a Pure Sabacc or An Idiots Array.
If two or more players tie for the winning hand, they engage in a Sudden Demise. Each player involved in the Sudden Demise is dealt one extra card. After incorporating that card into their hand totals, they again compare hand totals, the player with the best modified hand wins. In the case that a player Bombs Out, they do not suffer the Bomb Out penalty if you are playing with one.
There are different styles of play in Sabacc called Table Rules. Table Rules are variations of Sabacc that will differ from the standard rules depending on how the dealer wants to play.
Empress Teta Preferred:
-Players get the option to swap out a card before they lay out their card after the Drawing phase is complete.
-a player can get a 'straight' to win the game with cards being of consecutive values (1,2,3,4,5) with five cards that doesn't have to be suited.
Clout City Casino:
-Played with 4 or 5 cards.
-A value of 0 ends the game along with 23 or -23.
-Players can choose to have lower values win over larger values.
The Smuggler's Shuffle
-During the shifting phase everyone, starting from the player to the left of the dealer, rolls two dice. If the dice are the same number a shift occurs.
-if a player has a score over 23, under -23 or 0 the player bombs out and has to pay the sum of the hand pot into the sabacc pot. For lower stakes games a pre set penalty is agreed on before the start of the game.
-an extra card is added to the deck that can be used to match the value of a card already in your hand.
-Table rules change randomly from hand to hand.
-Game is scored where the player with 100 points wins the game.
-Points are given to the player after each hand, the difference between the winning hand and the lowest loosing hand is marked down as the winner's points.
The 4 suits are: Coins, Flasks, Sabers and Staves.
The 8 special cards (two of each) are: Queen of Air and Darkness (-2), Endurance (-8), Balance (-11), Demise (-13), Moderation (-14), The Evil One (-15), The Star (-17), and The Idiot (0).
As you can all see I have the prototype Galactic Sabacc deck done.This is not the final Galactic Sabacc deck, some cards may change completely and others will be made better. Work on the other decks will begin the end of May (due to work) and I will update regularly every week and when progress is made.

The first thing I will be doing with the funding is investing in a design program. While I am working on the four decks (three prototypes and the four final products). I am always looking to keep costs down so if anyone has a better site to go to your help is greatly appreciated!
Risks and challenges
A big challenge is that I can not use any "Star Wars™" images in this project. But I can still make this project, just no jedi/sith, stormtroopers/rebellion troopers. As this does set me back from my original plans this wont stop the project. Cards like Moderation, Endurance and The Idiot are as of now (7/22) image-less due to not being able to use SW images. I have included the e-mail from LA so you can all see.

One big challenge I will be facing is time. I work as an engineer on Tug Boats and have a 3Week on 3Week off schedule where i am away on the boat for 3 weeks working two 6 hr shifts, So I will be working on the designs and manufacturing in my off time.
