2015 Typographic Wall Calendar.
I am very sad to not do a Kickstarter Campaign for the 2015 Typographic Wall Calendar.
I did four campaigns in a row for the 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 Edition. And it was always great, so much fun, pure excitement, adventure, tons of work and a great journey. I enjoyed every bit of it and especially sharing this experience with you. It feels great to know that people all over the world are interested in this project that started as a daydream in 2009. Until now through Kickstarter this work traveled to backers in 40 countries around the globe.* Below the images I am describing why I am not launching a Kickstarter campaign for the Typographic Wall Calendar this year.
Before you ask…
Yes, I am going to make a 2015 version. Or actually I did a 2015 version. I thought everything would be done in a week and then I ended up spending four weeks working on it. But now it is done! And for the first time on a white background! I hope you like it as much as I do, you can order a copy through my website.
Here are some pictures from the making:
By the way…what is with this pattern and all the black keys?
The pattern follows a simple rule. One black key is placed in the 1st row, 2 black keys in the 2nd row, 3 keys in the 3rd and so forth. When a line is set entirely in black keys the principle switches. 1 beige key is added the next row, followed by 2 in the 2nd row, 3 keys in the 3rd line and so forth…
I place the color, shape and font of the keys in order to try to avoid placing two keys of the same kind close to each other as long as possible. This is why the checkered pattern emerges in the second quarter.
Why didn't I do a Kickstarter Campaign?
I am very sad to not do a Kickstarter Campaign this year for the first time since 2010 :-(
The are two reasons for this, the first one is time… despite enjoying creating calendars I am not good at managing time. My aim was to offer the calendar before the holidays so that you and other people interested in the project can actually get the print and then gift it to a friend or colleague. In September I thought: Yeah, in October I am going to lunch a campaign. Then plans got crossed, suddenly it was late October and I realized I will not have the time to make a well prepared Kickstarter campaign with a video, great new rewards and afterwards do the work on the calendar itself and organize shipping it in time for the holidays.
So I set a priority on taking the time to create the calendar and make it available before 2015.
The second reason is, that it is very complicated to lunch a campaign in the US from Germany but actually require the funding in Germany to pay production, packaging and shipping. If there is not so much time pressure, this is actually not a big deal. But in combination with the given time frame it just didn't work out. (( But I heard that this situation is maybe going to change in 2015…maybe Kickstarter will enable German creators to lunch projects on Kickstarter - very happy - but at the same time not trying to be too happy about a sentence with two maybes :-) ))
So I decided, the right step would be to upfront the production cost myself this year. My calculation is simple I need at least forty orders to balance the production costs. I hope you have enjoyed your copy of the Typographic Wall Calendar, maybe you would like to have a new one for 2015?
I would be very happy to send you a copy! Until December 10th I will add one extra copy for free to every order. The price for a single copy is 29€ so the price is about 15€ - maybe this would make a great gift for the upcoming holidays?
A signed edition is also available for 39€ and a Gift Pack with 5 individually packaged calendars for 99€.
If you like to have a closer look at the print you can download this 1800px x 2545px jpg image of the 2015 poster.
Let me know if you have any questions about this.
You can contact me though Kickstarter or simply write a mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
PS.: I am always very happy when backers send me pictures from their calendars up and hanging… This one comes from follow Backer Brandon from Sweden: Thank you Brandon.
Now imagine having the 2015 Edition hanging next to it:
* I quickly counted all the countries from the backers list of 2010 to 2013:
Argentina Australia Austria Belgium Brazil Canada Croatia Denmark Estonia Finland France Germany Greece Hong Kong Iceland India Indonesia Ireland Israel Italy Japan Korea Liechtenstein Luxembourg Malaysia Mexico Netherlands New Zealand Norway Portugal Russia Saudi Arabia Singapore South Africa Spain Sweden Switzerland Taiwan Thailand United States of America.
