Update #4

we woke up and we were funded!!!

As I write this, my dear little Seed Sister Sorrel is still sleeping outside on the deck amidst the morning bird calls of Marin County, CA, where we're camped out for Seed School. I am eager to tell her...wait, wait, now she is awake and reading Seedfolks, the dear children's book by Paul Fleischman that inspired our Seed Library name and dreams! :) We've been spending the past few days and will be spending the next few here at Seed School with Bill McDorman (Seed Master Extraordinaire and co-director of Native Seeds/SEARCH) learning the ins and outs of seed stewardship. We're having a divine time, sponging up all the information we can, making connections with our classmate seed lovers that span the country and filling our cups with inspiration to fuel this dream through its next stages! We are immensely grateful to those of you who've offered your support...so many of you we have never met...but we're confident our seed stories will intermingle in the days and months and years ahead! Thank you, thank you, thank you! We are blessed! And so grateful :) Seed it, Eat it, ya'll!!!!

Update #3

The Final Days!

Comment

Dear Supporters!

We are in our final three days of fund raising for our little project and we need your help in spreading the word to your friends/family/colleagues who may be interested in donating. We are so grateful that you've already pledged your support and we need just a few more dollars to get this baby off the ground :)

Last night we hosted a fundraiser dinner in Oakland, CA for 30 supporters and were able to raise some good money as well as indulge in the positive energy flowing around this project. We gathered at sunset in an urban barn and feasted on local and seasonal foods; the highlights were raspberry/rose petal white sangria, fresh pasta with an asparagus/pea cream sauce, and herbed roasted chicken over a bed of mashed potatoes and celeriac! For dessert we feasted on cornmeal cake with strawberries. We set up a silent auction with donations from local artisans and had a local musician singing sweetly with her guitar to us as we wined and dined. We are looking forward to hosting more dinners in the future; for what is the fun of growing seeds if you don't really enjoy their fruits from time to time!?

We're excited to be talking with the Oakland Public Libraries about potentially partnering with them to put seed bank satellites in branches across the city...they said they'll be very willing to listen **if we can get funded!!**

So please spread the word far and wide...every little bit counts. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support thus far and we look forward to opening our seed shelves to you this summer!!

Warmly,

The Seedfolks

Update #2

we're bolting like a head of lettuce!

Comment

Seed savers and supporters,

As our seed sister keri mentioned on her KPFA interview this past Friday (if you missed it tune in here: KPFA's TERRA VERDE) all the growing conditions were perfect for our little project to germinate right here in Oakland.

And thank you all for growing this with us! Y'all put the folks in Seedfolks.

With just 15 days remaining on our campaign, Seedfolks has evolved from a sprouting idea to a bolting community-based project! If we continue on this trajectory we'll be reaping the rewards of what we've sown very soon. So please continue to help us nurture this project and spread the word to anyone you know who might be connected and interested.

We've received such positive community response already. Plus we have great mentors in this process, namely Richmond Grows and Native Seeds/SEARCH and BASIL). Today we registered ourselves for Seed School! Wheeee!

Presently we are busy getting our seed collections organized, networking with the city's public libraries, and creating a home for ourselves at the  Center for Sustainable Living in North Oakland, CA. This is where we will be running our seed library, installing our living laboratory seed saving demonstration garden, and hosting workshops and seed related events.

Our doors will open here on May 7th so in the coming weeks and months we'll have lots of library development projects for you all to dig into.

For now, keep spreading the good word, join 'Seedfolks' on facebook, and if you'd like to be on our email list, please send a quick message to theseedfolks@gmail.com, subject: seedmail, and we'll make sure to keep you in the loop as this project develops.

Peas and carrots,

The Seedfolks Team

Update #1

just five days into our campaign, we're doing an admirable job of raising the funds to make our project a reality!

many thanks to those who's already donated...we are so grateful for your early support.

to those who've yet to donate or who are unable, please consider helping us out with whatever you're able to pledge or just by spreading the word on our campaign to your networks! the more people that know about this, the better chance we have of success :)
