Thank you for your support on this campaign and for GoPlug Bags! Unfortunately we will not reach our funding goal; however, we are still very excited about GoPlug bags and don’t think the Kickstarter outcome is reflective of the market—and yes, we will move forward with production.
Many of you had great suggestions on features for the bags—thank you! We will consider each suggestion, and feel confident the bags will be better because of your input. Also, many of you are wondering what’s next, and how you can receive a bag. At this time my team and I will regroup and discuss whether or not to re-launch the project on Indiegogo and/or just go to market. Regardless of our decision, if you are interested in receiving more information about how to get a bag, contact me at email@example.com and I’ll make sure you get all the updates. Also, you can check www.GoPlugBags.com occasionally for updates.
If you’re a current backer, you will be privileged to receive offers and discounts first, once the bags are in production.
We have not only received great ideas from our supporters, but we have had many inquiries from investors, distributors, and retailers wanting to make GoPlug bags a reality. We are extremely encouraged and look forward to bringing these bags to market.
Smart technology needs to be handled in a smart way, and that is just what GoPlug has done. We have taken the most commonly used bags and enabled them to work with your devices to keep you connected and keep your electronics fully charged. The GoPlug baggage set is the world’s best "smart" bag.
The GoPlug baggage set is not just an ordinary set of bags. It contains its own battery pack that allows you to charge your electronic devices, even if you are not near a power outlet.
UNIVERSAL OUTLET TO BE STANDARD ON ALL BAGS
The built-in battery has the capacity to charge your smart phone up to six times, and your tablet up to two times, and doubles the life on an average laptop on a single charge (results vary). So, whether you are on the plane, in a car, or sitting in a waiting room, you will never have to worry about losing power.
Whether traveling for business, giving a presentation, or just working and playing from home, the GoPlug bags will make your busy life easier.
"Are GoPlug Bags waterproof?"
Yes, sort of! Water resistant is a better description.
We've taken serious consideration with each component of the bags. From the zippers to the power button, everything is waterproof. Although your electronics will be protected from moisture, I would not use the bags as a floatation device or submerse them in water (thus resistant not waterproof). Exposure to rain/sleet/snow is not a problem.
UNIVERSAL OUTLETS - NOW INCLUDED ON ALL BAGS
An international version is in HIGH demand!
Here's some good news, last week while attending the NAB conference I met with a large company from NY (they shall remain anonymous but I'm sure you have heard of them). They loved the bags and were super excited. Well, I just received notification that they want to carry the bags in their retail and on-line store. AWESOME!!!
Without the newly acquired interest, the Universal outlets would not be possible.
I spend nearly six months out of each year on the road for business. Much of that time is spent from one airport and hotel to the next. Even when I’m away from home, my business continues without me, and staying connected is a necessity. This often becomes difficult, because batteries on mobile devices only last so long. By the time I step off an airplane, sometimes my phone is completely dead and I have to try to navigate a new city without it. All too often, I’ve had to sit at the airport and hunt down an available outlet at odd hours of the night, so that I didn’t have to drive to my hotel without a navigation system. Finding a power source in a busy airport can be a nightmare.
Thousands of travelers end up in the same situation and airports don’t accommodate this need very well. Some terminals have “powering stations”, but this only provides an outlet for six or seven devices, leaving the other people out of luck.
So I came up with the bag.
MY TEAM – MY BACKGROUND
I am a filmmaker and entrepreneur with over 15 years of production experience. Although I am not an engineer or electrician, I am qualified to bring the GoPlug from concept to completion. I have overseen multi-million dollar productions for fortune 500 companies as well as delivered campaigns/commercials/corporate projects on time and under budget. These projects require a specialized team of professionals with many disciplines to meet the objectives.
The approach I’m taking with these products is similar to projects I have done in the past— by contracting with highly skilled professionals who specialize in design to make the GoPlug the best bag on the market. That is why I have partnered with the manufacturer I have chosen. They have many years of experience in textile design and bag manufacturing.
WHAT ARE WE FUNDING?
We need your help to get this bag into production. Functional prototypes have been built and are currently being used. We are improving the design and creating the best bags in the world.
Funds raised from this campaign will not only help in the design phase of GoPlug products, but they will also fund tooling and manufacturing. This will enable us to create a brand that fits the needs of today’s market, as well as a plan for adaptations and changes on devices in the future. An overseas manufacturing facility, with an office in the United States, has been selected to create these state-of-the art bags. They have been producing high quality materials for many top name brands for over 20 years. I will work with their design team and will utilize their experience and expertise to produce the GoPlug, and together we will create the best bags on the market.
GoPlug has five patents pending on the bags, protecting it from the possibility of other companies copying or counterfeiting it. You will not see other bags like this on the market. If you do, they are counterfeit and will not be held to the same quality standards as the bags built by GoPlug.
My desire to create a bag that enabled me to achieve true mobility, all the while staying powered, led me to create many different prototypes. I rewired outlets to work with a small rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack. This enabled me to charge my mobile devices anyplace I needed, even when a power source was not nearby.
Although this prototype combated my mobilizing power challenge, making the bag functional on the go was not quite there. I was limited to charging the devices from the exterior of the bag.
Because time doesn’t always allow removing a mobile device from your bag to charge it, my latest prototype and pending patent is the rotating power plug. This will allow you to charge your devices on the inside or outside of your bag. Even if the GoPlug is in the overhead compartment on an airplane, or in the trunk of a car—no matter where you are, your devices will be getting necessary power in order to stay connected. The power cords attached to the bag act as an extension cord, feeding in live power, as well as recharging the built-in power supply.
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PROTOTYPE AND FINAL PRODUCT
HOW WILL THIS BENEFIT YOU?
The bag is not only designed for business travelers, it's also a great addition to your home, office, and emergency supply closet.
Anytime Charging - Use the built in battery when your mobile device needs an extra boost Emergency Power Continuous Power - The built-in cord acts as an extension cord as well as charges the built-in battery (Pass-through charging).
I have passed through airport TSA security over 20 times with these bags (even more if you include my previous prototypes). The bags have gone through each time without being searched. On one occasion they ran my bag through the scanner twice... other than that, not a problem. I am in the process to get these bags "TSA Approved".
$90K - Battery Level Indicator on each bag
$100K - Computer Trolley
Because each country has different outlets and voltage requirements, we are not supporting any international standards outside U.S. and EU specifications. If you live outside the United States, and would still like to receive a bag, international shipping rates will be added to incentives.
Replacement batteries can be ordered from my website at www.GoPlugBags.com. The cost will be around $65-$85.
Safety Risks – Merging textiles with electricity can be difficult, and safety needs to be a top priority. In order to follow all safety standards and create the best possible product, we could end up behind schedule.
Design Risks – This product is the first of it’s kind. We’re not reinventing the wheel… we’re inventing it! We will create the best bag in the world, using the best textile designers on the planet. This may take some time.
TSA Approval – Going through airport security is already difficult. We don’t want to produce a bag that will make this process more difficult. We may have to jump through some hoops to get this done right the first time.
Fulfillment – These bags will be produced in high volume over seas. We guarantee a high quality product, and if the final product off the assembly line is anything less, we will decline the order. We will demand the finest materials and product for the best price.
Acts of God – Not everything can be predicted , but this title should cover any unforeseeable snags in development.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
It depends entirely on how much current is being drawn from the battery by the device.
Because charging a laptop and other devices are pulling from volts, not amps, the best descriptions I can give is on the project page.
Here's an example: 2000 mAh is the same as 2 amp-hours, meaning the battery could supply 2 amps for one hour, 1 amp for 2 hours, a half amp for four hours, and so on.
So how much current does your device draw? Let's say it's 100 mA (0.1 amps). From the above, you know the battery can supply 1 amp for 2 hours, so it can therefore supply 0.1 amps for 20 hours.
The answer for the second part of this question: Because the battery is not being charged via USB (5 amps or less), it takes less than two hours to completely charge the battery!
See answer above. Here's what is stated on the project page:
"The built-in battery has the capacity to charge your smart phone up to six times, and your tablet up to two times, and doubles the life on an average laptop on a single charge (results vary)."
Charging a device through the USB ports would be like using a 15,000 to 20,000 mAh battery pack. Results may vary because devices will be powered/charged using volts not amps.
Contact me and up your pledge amount accordingly.
Check back periodically to www.GoPlagBags.com and you will find replacement batteries there. And yes, the batteries are swappable.
Between $65 - $85 USD
We have taken every step in an attempt to make this bag as rugged/versatile as possible. The power button is waterproof. I grew up in Portland, Oregon and keeping personal items dry (and safe) from the rain was foremost on my list. Dusty/sandy conditions won't effect the electronics.
With regards to the power button accidentally being pushed, it may happen. However, the button is not super sensitive and takes a direct/deliberate push in order to activate the flow of power. I have been using these new bags for about a month (on flights, buses, hikes, outdoor video shoots, etc...) and the power button has never been activated by accident-- and we've put the bags through rough working conditions.
Yes, if we reach the stretch goal, this addition will be made.
I want to make as many bags as the market demands. Keep looking in the stretch goals, it may be there soon.
The bags do have pass-through charging ability. Your device(s) will receive power as well as charge the internal battery pack when the bags are plugged in to the wall. It's a pretty cool thing!
As far as heat transfer goes, battery performance suffers in extreme temperatures, hot or cold. You will not see as good of results as you would in a moderate climate. Nonetheless, it's still better than the current options on the market.
Yes, each bag will have internal wiring routes that lead from the rotating power hub.
As of right now, yes.
