About this project
Profiling Race in America
The diversity of America is a beautiful thing, yet chronic racial division has haunted our nation’s narrative. The scars of racism in this country go far deeper than the skin -- they are embedded in our history, and discrimination continues to afflict our society. We’ve all heard the term “racial profiling,” and the pernicious injustice attached to this term surfaces time and time again. As filmmakers, we’re turning the tables on racial injustice by profiling people and their experiences with race and racism. In short, we are profiling race.
We’re not merely facilitating a conversation; we desire a more intimate lens, a psychologically rich picture of the issue--something that explores the histories, anecdotes, and thoughts of people who have significant insights about race. Stories are important, and we realized that we can’t wholistically appreciate someone’s struggles if we don’t listen to his or her story.
A New Web Series on Race in America
Over the past few years, our hometown of St. Louis has become a focal point on the issue of race in America. We recently completed episode one of a new series contributing to this conversation that we are calling Profiling Race. Our production company, Grain, carried the financial load in order to make this first episode a possibility. But we need your help to make episodes two and three a reality. We present our first installment with pastor Mike Higgins. Listen as Mike shares his journey with race while he served this country in the US Army for three decades and now as he leads as a minister and dean in a predominantly white church and seminary. Our vision for the Series
Our vision for Profiling Race is to present a variety of perspectives while giving a platform to individuals who are working towards a better society and exposing the challenges we face.
We plan to make at least two more episodes for this series, shining a light on the problem of racism still so prevalent in America today. To recognize the great diversity of America, we need to give voice to an array of ethnicities and backgrounds. Each episode will focus on a specific person and will delineate the subject’s thoughts on how to cultivate change. Differences deserve dialogue. We hope that this project is at least a small step in the process of helping people talk about their differences, and learn not to have our relationships be defined by them.

Risks and challenges
Our goal is always to tell human stories in a beautiful, compelling and honest way. But in the endeavors to produce these stories there are risks and challenges. We don't have the next subjects chosen for the future episodes. Finding the people who are comfortable in front of a camera and willing to talk about a sensitive subject matter can be challenging. Grain, our production company, will also need to carry some of the financial burden of this project since this campaign's minimum amount does not cover all of the costs.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
