Gaomonteras is a 2D action adventure with variable gameplay. It is no simple plattformer, not exactly a metroidvania and it is no Legend of Zelda styled journey but you can play it like one of them, if you like.

Everything begins with a temple being attacked by a foreign army, led by a dark and legendary emperor. Full of fear, the priests are summoning a demon hoping to be protected by him. This demon is Gaomonteras and it is up to you, if you are willing to help.
Who is Gaomonteras?
Why was he imprisoned and exiled? Well, he is some kind of mysterious half-god and his only true power is to transform the size of clothes and armor, so he can fit in. This is a strange and unique superpower, isn't it? It sounds a bit useless, but Gaomonteras' potential grows with every new piece of gear.
Where is the story taking place?
It plays in a vast and untamed world. It starts in a land once ruled by noble men and magical priests and is now weakened by its conquering neighbors. It is a mixture of medieval fantasy and foreign planet and it is really trying hard not to be cliché.
Where is the story going?
After his release, Gaomonteras is free to explore the lands, fight the attacking army, collect equipment and use its powers. But there are many storytwists and revelations for those who seek for the truth.
These items are the true heart of the game. Gaomonteras can find them everywhere in the gameworld. There are 4 sorts of equipment: Helmets, Armor, Gloves and Boots.
Helmets - a helmet, hat, mask, pair of glasses, etc... usually grants passive abilities like sight of invisible objects or protection from falling hazards.
Armor – an armor, vest, suit, shirt, belt, etc... is helping in defensive ways, like invulnerability in case of fire or giving damage back to enemies.
Gloves – pairs of gloves, gauntlets, rings, thimble, etc... mostly have an offensive nature, giving the wearer the ability to shoot fireballs or increase attack range. Some are draining magical energy if used.
Boots – pairs of boots, shoes, sandals, socks, etc... can make you move faster or jump higher. Most of them affect your mobility.
If you are lucky enough finding a new piece of equipment have fun researching its effects, because nobody will be telling you how and where to use them.This is part of the game, you know?
If you gain access to the Gaomonteras forum you got the chance to influence the game. None of the collectable pieces of equipment are final, neither in design or power. Be part of this newborn community and show your ideas.
Your ideas shape the game!
Every backer will be named in the credits. And if you invented something for the game, your name will be listed next to your creation to honor you. And even if your design didn’t make the cut, it will be shown in the artbook, if you like.
One of the games main aspects is freedom and aside from story and characters, freedom is a big part of the gameplay.
Straight Forward: Play the game like a Super Mario Game. Go fight yourself to the finish line. You don't need any boni to win.
Adventurer Style: Talk to NPCs, go on Quests, follow hints or explore the paths aside the main track to find equipment. Use a selection of gear to play more aggressive, agile, defensive or trickster-ish just as you like it to get to the end.
Speedrunner: Remember the most useful items and try to clear the game as fast as possible.
Explorer of Freedom: Hey, you are free to do whatever you like. Do you really care about the story? Don't worry they are waiting for you, you won't miss anything. You can explore everything you want, without being punished. This gamestyle plays a lot like metroidvania or a sandbox game. Is there something special, if you collect all equipment items?
Shopping Queen: Just searching for the cool looking armor.
The Unpredictable: Ehm, okay do that…
It is a game about decisions, not consequences. You can't do something wrong, no path destroys the other, so play it like you want to play it and enjoy how the game reacts to your playstyle.
These are the three pillars the game is build on:
Exploration: It is a new world, listen to the stories of its inhabitants, find new ways around obstacles, discover secrets and search for the lands limits.
Combat: Use Meditation to create an indestructible shield against enemy projectiles. Fight your way through hordes of soldiers and lethal wildlife or make these two fight each other. You can use a wide variety of attacks, like the Transform Ability to shock enemies or unleash the powers of your equipment.
Your Unique Playstyle: It is up to you, do you want to defeat the emperor and follow the story? Be surprised how NPCs react to your speedrun abilities or efficient combat techniques. Our goal is to make more than just the stealth path next to the combat- or plattformer path.
Alexander Auernhammer - Art, Gamedesign, Story
He is the shadowy figure behind everything, pulling the strings and preparing the upcoming events. He studied game design and worked in the industry and is constantly trying to tame his creativity. Some people describe him as calm and funny, but he disagrees politely while telling a joke.
Maximilian Auernhammer - Programming
This bounty hunter is the brother of Alex and together they form the "Brotherhood". He is a huge Metroid fan and owns every game of the franchise. If we make more games, one will be a SciFi-game, definitely. His superpower is programming without the use of caffeine.
Timo Appelmann - Audio
There is a small chance, that this guy likes music.
Mireille Diltz - Translator
Our secret agent on a secret mission.
Henry Lai - Webdesigner
Trusty knight of the internet and wizard of digital magic. We don't know why, but he is a gamer with the skills of a devil. He loves potato chips.

Risks and challenges
Videogames are hard to make. Combine the risks of composing music, painting pictures, writing stories, fighting with lawyers, coding programs and much more and you can see a path full of obstacles. But there is something tempting about every challenge and we wish to create something unique and wonderful. The risk is worth it.
We are trying to involve our backers into the creative part of development, more than anyone did before. This will be chaotic, it will be problematic and it will be a new experience for everyone. This is the part where we need your help the most.
