Ellen Bruno, the SPLIT team . . . and all the kids who will benefit from this film!
"It's like a missing piece to a puzzle. I feel like this divorce is my fault, but I don’t know why."
THE FILM SPLIT is a deeply personal film made in collaboration with children aged 6-12, exploring the often frightening and always life-altering separation of their parents.
SPLIT is made exclusively from the point of view of the children . . . no adults, no experts . . . just kids speaking the powerful truth of what is on their minds and in their hearts as their families change.
SPLIT is part of an engaging toolkit, which includes an interactive website, an activity book for kids and a viewers guide for adults. And we have the commitment and skills to bring this film and toolkit to a very wide audience.
OUR GOAL Our goal is to get the monsters out from under the beds of our kids . . . to get kids talking -- to each other, to their parents, and to the other adults in their lives . . . and to encourage kids to tell us what they need and want as their families change.
The remarkable wisdom, candor, and humor of these testimonies will give courage to other children and encourage parents to make better choices as they move through divorce.
The voices of these children will be heard across country -- in homes and schools, in churches and temples, in counselors' offices, law offices, and the family court system -- all by way of an extensive outreach campaign.
"You feel sort of powerless. You're their son or daughter but it's not your ball of wax . . . it's theirs."
WHERE WE ARE We are close to completing our film, but we need your help. We have completed an hour-long cut of SPLIT with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Creative Work Fund, and small foundation grants and donations from generous supporters.
WHAT WE NEED With this campaign's $30,000 we will: complete the animation of children’s drawings complete the final edit and score the film.
And with additional funding we will: mix sound color-correct the final edit produce and print a viewer's guide and a kid's activity book and get SPLIT out in the world.
"Even though he's not in the same house or on the same street, he is still with me, in my heart."
HOW IT WORKS Kickstarter invites people (like you!) to back creative projects with donations from $1 to $10,000…. and receive rewards based on your level of pledge.
But a Kickstarter campaign is an “all or nothing” deal:
If we don’t reach our goal of $30k in 30 days, no pledges are called in, and we get nothing!
So please give what you can . . . every dollar helps!
Please encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to join you -- and help us spread the word! Forward a link to our page, friend us on Facebook, and Tweet about SPLIT.

Risks and challenges
Our goal is to reach as many children and families as possible with this resource. We have a long history of effective community engagement with our past films. Yet our challenge with SPLIT is to reach those families in rural America that have far less access to support during times of family transition.
To meet this challenge we are building partnerships with social service organizations, tapping into established networks of Latino, Asian American, Native American and other ethnic and religious communities, and connecting with clergy, teachers, and social workers across the country.
