Combustion is an Action-RPG with a unique focus on police work.
You play as Officer Calico, the sometimes cynical police cat who desperately tries to maintain order in Norrune, the City of Oil Rigs.
Combustion is made in the lowpoly-style of an early 3D video game, particulary that of the original Playstation era. Featuring a dieselpunk style made famous by games like Final Fantasy 7 and Oddworld, with a hint of Metal Gear Solid and Parasite Eve too. The world of Combustion is dark and industrial, but still worth fighting for.
Armed with a retractable electric baton and a suppression shield, Calico will confront suspects in any way he can. Blocking, attacking and dodging are critical for restoring order, as he walks the fine line of appropriate force and brutality.
Arrest & Policework
Being a policeman is about much more than just bashing heads. You're heavily incentivized to arrest suspects, perform emergency service work, call in anything suspicious and maintainin the law.
Communication & Interaction
The environments are cluttered with items to use and interact with, NPCs to communicate with/interrogate and places to visit. Equipped with a cellphone, Calico can also call one of his many friends and colleagues.
The City of Norrune is always on the brink of chaos with civil unrest and a pent-up aggression of the populace facing a harsh reality. Protests, riots, sabotage, crime and so much else on this giant oil rig makes this place a proverbial powder-keg waiting to go off.
Repression and the Animal Within
The people living in this world struggle with the nature of expression and repression and finding the balance between the two. Order, chaos and the nuances in-between. All the while Calico, having shut off his emotions for years, is forced to battle his own demons.
The game's art utilizes a retro lowpoly look from the days of the original Playstation, N64 and early PC gaming. Big polygons and crisp, unfiltered textures make for an up to recently unappreciated iconic look of retro video games, that is to a certain crowd nostalgic like pixel-art.
The technological era in-between steampunk and cyberpunk, dieselpunk reflects and exaggerates much of our own time. Heavy gas-guzzling engines, "hi-tech" CRT monitors and giant oil rigs. An all-around industrial design permeates the game's aesthetics.

Completing A Game Without Overpromise
Kickstarter is great, but it's also quite easy for a developer to get ahead of themselves. Therefore the scope of this kickstarter can seem conservative and restrained, but it is to ensure the game's creation within a scope that's set as realistically as possible.
Adequate funding for a game project ensures more time can be spent on it as well as the hiring of additional help and/or products, like software and tools to increase the quality of the game itself. The ultimate scope of the project will be adjusted based on the success of the kickstarter campagin.

Personal Character Section
For tiers related to having a custom character in the game there are a few guidelines for the character. The character must be based on a real-life animal (No dragons or the like) and otherwise fit inside the setting of Combustion. Retro Dungeon reserves the right to adjust characters in ways to fit the setting/story, but extensive creative control will be given.
Risks and challenges
Any kickstarter, especially within game development runs a risk of not being finished. This is why the game's demo and pre-production was developed so extensively before this kickstarter so all the core systems and designs were in place to where it's an issue of adding quantity and refining quality rather than develop entirely new systems. This also helps in the estimation of time for said content.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
