...Is a hybrid old and new-school game that combines, the frenetic fun of Collectable Card Games with the laid-back relaxed attitude of puzzle building. It's...
I have a great love for puzzles, and strategy games too. Games like Chinese Checkers or Chess, and TCGs like Magic: The Gathering and Pokemon. And video games: like Ogre Battle, Final Fantasy Tactics and Disgaea.
My idea was to create an analog experience of what I loved about those games, add in the meditative quality of chess or a good puzzle, but make it more random and fun like a trading card game. Thus Bit Puzzle Tactis was born!
The first ever collectable tradable puzzle game!
HOW DOES IT PLAY?
To put it simply, it plays fast and fun. The rules are easy and take very little memorization.
It's all about the pieces!
Each turn you can place and move a piece. Every piece can move and interact differently with the board and the other pieces.
Lets talk about an individual piece's stats:
There is your Attack/Strength, Range, Movement, and Defense.
Each stat plays a vital role in a given match.
Say a Knight Errant was moving into place to attack a strong enemy, like an Necromancer.
Because the piece is the one taking action, he isn't yet vulnerable to the necromancers ranged attack, that is until the following turn when his rival player places a skeleton piece. On it's own this piece is worthless, but given the necromancer's range, he is able to overpower the knight, as seen here:
To add insult to injury, the necromancer has a hidden ability. Any defeated player pieces within it's circle of influence are treated as un-dead followers in control of the necromancer. See the included ability card bundled with this rare piece:
And that's just one round of the madness.
So get this, every piece is printed front and back like the knight. When a piece is defeated it’s flipped over. The back shows piece stats and place-marks where your warrior fell.
But, there are also special pieces that’ll even keep fighting until attacked a second time when, only then, they’ll be completely removed from play.
An uncommon variant of the typical skeleton warrior is the zombie, who, when defeated, loses buffs and reverts to a weakened skeletal state, until the next player turn when he'll no doubt crumble to dust and be removed entirely from play.
There are also other special types of pieces too.
There are special add-on pieces, like this sword piece that adds on an extra attack., or terrain pieces that have different effects also. The stairs might let you warp to a counterpart stair piece further away. The 3-D printed keep piece has an area of effect on all the pieces surrounding it, granting an extra defense to it's defenders.
Something else to take into consideration is...
The starter set comes with the play board printed right on the back of the box! Almost like a chess board in it's simplicity, it provides an easy means of telling how far a piece can advance.
Like Go, the game ends when no more pieces can be played - that is either because all the players pieces are defeated, or because there is no more space on which to play.
Oh! Be sure to take a look at the concept video for a bit more of an in-depth play by play.
Bit Puzzle Tactics is a Play System...
...so don't let me stop you from playing however you like. Bit Puzzle Tactics can be the groundwork for a multitude of different play styles!
PROOF OF CONCEPT
...Well, see for yourself. While I am a capable graphic designer, my lack of material funding limits what I can make for the prototype. So what you see here and in the intro video is a far cry from the finished product.
A 25 piece booster pack to expand upon your collection. Mix and match your pieces to make the best set possible and play against your friends and rivals!
The 90 piece Starter Pack is a beginning player's best friend. Guaranteed to have what you need to start playing the game, including an instruction book.

The Veterinarian is a unique piece in that she is a healer with ranged capabilities.
Though she has no offense or defense to speak of, with her two movement stats she's perfect for sending deep into enemy territory and raising a lost comrade before the enemy even knows what's what.
What could number 2 possibly be!?
Where's the Funding Going to?
I've done my research and have realized that the most cost effective way to start off will be to procure the machinery and print the puzzles myself. Otherwise I couldn't afford to keep the reward tiers so low, even purchasing in bulk.
•About 10% of the money earned through Kickstarter goes towards fees: Theirs, and the payment fees.
•About 60%-80% of the majority of costs is going to be going into purchasing the puzzle press and dies used to print puzzles as well as start-up costs.
•About 20%-40% will go to production, finishing and shipping. It's actually relatively cheap to make puzzles, Shipping's going to be the big ticket here.
The following music was used in my introduction video, sourced as follows:
Liszt- au bord d une as performed by Randolph Hokanson
In the Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg, performed by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra as the Musopen Symphony Orchestra for the Musopen Kickstarter Project.
Movement II of "The Planets" by Gustav Holst, Venus, the Bringer of Peace. Performed by the U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band in a transcription by Merlin Patterson, edited by Capt. Lang and MSgt Aldo Forte for their 1998 C.D. Frontiers
Thanks to those musicians for making their music free to use.
Risks and challenges
There's any number of challenges that could provide setbacks or delays to a project such as this. I could, heaven forbid, lose my full time job, or be struck by an unforeseen circumstance. Hopefully none of those things happen, but there are no guarantees when it comes to being human and having your health.
However, in all assurances, the minimum funds accrued from the project account for what it would take to get me 100% of the way to production and beyond so barring any act of God, you'll be playing the game as soon as physically possible. Thank you all.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
