About

The KC Education Enterprise will publish a series of articles focusing on civil rights and school discipline in the Kansas City metropolitan area. We will be investigating records on the local, state and federal levels as well as seeking interviews with students and educators. According to a recent report released by the federal government, minority students -- especially boys -- experience more than their fair share of harsh discipline in the public school system. Education Secretary Arne Duncan has described this as a civil rights issue. We plan to localize this important story, seeing how it plays out in each of the 28 districts we cover. All 28 articles will be published on our education policy news site. Our hope is that this information will be of value to policy makers, school districts, parents and students in our community and will lead to positive change.
